MIDI trouble - at splice of 2 clips (verse to chorus), DB-33 overloads
I don't know if overload is the right word. We recorded a bunch of MIDI for verse/chorus/solo on separate MIDI tracks. When I went to paste them all into a single MIDI track in the order desired - the first 2 verses play great (DB-33), but at the chorus, the MIDI signal starts to overwhelm and the organ just becomes a wall of noise. When it plays through, and gets to the verse - it plays fine - then the chorus again, and the swell and problem again.
It's a 120 bpm, 3/4 time, MIDI track - I'd be glad to email it to anyone who knows more about this and might know why it overwhelms DB-33. I tried substituting Xpand2, but the same thing happens. Playing the MIDI via Windows Media Player - the problem doesn't occur to its synthesis engine (which, obviuosly, sucks - but the swell/overload doesn't occur, so the notes are obviously "proper") Could I email this exported midi track to someone - I don't even know what to look for - I looked at notes/velocity to see if anything looked "weird" - but I can't see it/don't know enough. |

I can take a look. If so, I'd like the DB-33 preset file and the MIDI file.

Re: MIDI trouble - at splice of 2 clips (verse to chorus), DB-33 overloads
I have just sent you the exported MID file via email from rstrother [at] parsonsbehle [dot] com.
The chorus problem kicks in around 1:03 using DB-33 (factory default - with key click set at 40%) and also Xpand2 as a substitute. I have considered putting Verse MIDI and Chorus MIDI on their own tracks, driving two different instances of DB-33, but that seems silly? |

There is sustain controller data at 127 through chorus 1 and 2. That's the problem.

Re: MIDI trouble - at splice of 2 clips (verse to chorus), DB-33 overloads
THANK YOU. Um, now how do I fix that? I don't know how to "see" that problem or rectify it. Is it a toggle I can turn off somehow?
Sorry, I don't know much beyond Clips and Velocity views in MIDI. |

Re: MIDI trouble - at splice of 2 clips (verse to chorus), DB-33 overloads
In the edit window, make the track fairly large so that you can see a box where it probably says Clips, Regions or Notes now? Click on that, choose Controllers, and then choose Sustain.
I know that it's possible to have multiple lanes of controller data visible from PT 8 and up, so what I describe here might not be accurate. I use 7.4.2.

Re: MIDI trouble - at splice of 2 clips (verse to chorus), DB-33 overloads
Could you email me back a screen shot. I'm in PT 10.0.1 now and just I have some idea what I'm looking for? I mean, it's probably obvious following your instructions, but just to save time? Sorry for doing this to you - I appreciate your assistance GREATLY.

And I can now continue soft-rocking with this help. |
