Default Please HELP: Two Problems with Eleven Rack

I am very frustrated trying to figure out how to solve these two problems:
1) there is a high pitched click-like/pop-like sound when I get the signal from the S/PDIF connection
2) I cannot see the Eleven Rack under Peripherals. When I go to Setup>Hardware, I can only see Avid 003 and nothing else. However, I can see the "Avid Eleven Rack" option in the Playback Engine menu.

Setup:
- MBP 10.8.5 (Mountain Lion), 2.6HGz i7, 8GB RAM
- Digi 003
- 11R (Part Number 9310-61033-00 Rev C. I read that mostly units with Rev E have clocking issues)

Checks (I did everything in this article):
- I am correctly "handshaken" in/out with two S/PDIF cables between the 003 and 11R.
- The 003 clock is set to Internal
- All up to date drivers installed, connected 003 via FireWire and Eleven Rack via USB to your computer
- Playback Engine is Avid 003
- In Hardware, I have 003 OPTICAL FORMAT = ADAT; 003 Clock Source = INTERNAL; ELEVEN RACK Clock Source = S/PDIF EXTERNAL.
- The 11R correctly shows EXTERNAL CLOCK: Valid (48kHz, S/PDIF), so it's set correctly as the slave

What I have tried
I've tried all the basics - rebooting, re-installing the latest drivers, reconnecting the cables, power-cycling everything, etc. Still have that pop/click intermittent noise.

I tried recording tests to see if it happens with audio only. Here is what I found:
- When output is rig, and the signal comes from the S/PDIF cable I get the clicks. When output is split and coming from S/PDIF I also get the noise.
- I do NOT get the noise when I record using the analog cable, however, the noise level is terrible and I can't record like that

Can someone please help? I have no idea what to try next. I just bought the Eleven Rack... should I sell it and just give up??

hi quality digital 75ohm cables? Not simple RCA (unbalanced cables) won't work correctly with those

The right 11rack for mountain lion? Which version of PT are you running?

Does everything work right with the 11 rack as the playback engine? Switch it and see...

This seems wrong, change your 003 to optical format Spdif not ADAT and this via the Spdif connectors

You should see this in the sys prefs

Yes, I have two high quality SPDIF 75 ohm cables, not the RCA ones.
I do have the latest driver for Mountain Lion. I have PT12.
Yes, when I record directly using the 11R as the interface I have no issues, but I really need the to use the 003 as my interface.
I changed the optical format from ADAT to SPDIF and back to what Avid recommends and I still have the same issue.

What else can I try? I feel daunted here...

You should have it Spdif b/c that's what you want to use (as I understand it)

But is the 003 qualified to work with PT12?

Does everything else work with the 003 and PT12 ?

Keep in mind I made this 4 years ago, so a lot has changed since then, but the basics are the same.

Hi YYR, so I found this video from one of the mods here and he has it set to ADAT. Also worth noting that when I switch to SPDIF in that menu, I can't even select the eleven rack as an input as it make the channel inactive.

I also tried switching to 44.1 sampling rate and it's just terribly noisy and the 11R can't sync with the 003 clock - it just stays in 48kHz.

Yes, the 003 is qualified with PT12, and I have used it without problems. Everything else runs smoothly in PT12, the only problem is the Eleven connections.

What else can I try? Any mods that have experience with this?

Hi Benoni, I followed your video step by step, I even read all the threads about this and I still have issues.

The click/pop is a high frequency intermittent noise that happens when I'm playing. It doesn't happen when I'm idle (there seems to be a gate in the 11R, but that's irrelevant).

I have the embedded settings correct, the proper connections, cables, setting on 11R, settings on 003, and PT settings. Everything is done correctly. Which leads me to the question: Is this normal and people just ignore the click/pop noise and record like that anyways? Or do I have a faulty unit? Mine is 9310-61033-00 Rev C, which should not have issues. What else am I missing?

Are the clicks coming from the clock or limited system resources? Like if you make your buffer larger do the clicks/pops go away?

I wish I still had my 003 so I could work this out in front off me, but if you have any other SPDIF cables maybe switch them out.

Try trashing preferences

Create a new session at 44.1 and see what happens

Then Create a new session at 48 and see what happens.

Hi Brian, I am 90% sure the clicks are coming from the clock. Nothing changes when I change the buffer (I have a MBP 15 with a lot of power and I've been testing only one track).

How do I trash preferences?

I tried creating a session at 44.1, but the 11R stays at 48 and it says that it has a valid clock
I also tried resetting everything in the 11R and starting over. Nothing has improved.

I have firmware 2.0.1, Build 0.1.5.7, not sure if that helps?

Updating after 7 hours of troubleshooting (literally ALL DAY).

I think I have this semi-working. I tried going from 44.1 to 48 and vice versa and that seemed to partially fix the problem. I was able to get the click out, but the only way this works is by NOT having the 11R embedded settings. For some reason PT12 fails to maintain connection with the 11R and gives me a message of "do you want to reconnect".
