This definitely does NOT fix the GUI issues.

Sorry, I should've specified that my only issue was getting the beachball and not any GUI problems.

After the clean re-install - no more beachball.

I hope these GUI issues you guys are experiencing get resolved very soon!

Yesterday's release, 10.11.4, has improved my system (faster response, fewer spinning beachballs). I'll have to see about Pro Tools later. Fingers crossed.

Cool please post your findings here once you test it with pro tools...

Disclaimer: I was not experiencing the GUI Lag and Glitches which is the subject of this thread. I just opened up PT and these are my first thoughts. That said, I feel like PT 12.4 is more responsive now with the latest OSX 10.11.4 update. It had been slow to show Pro Tools in the menu beside the apple in the upper left hand corner, but now it is responding normally. Also, it seems that it loads faster, plug-ins load faster. Nothing scientific to report.

EDIT: NEVER MIND. I get screen lag.

Avid directly told me 10.10.x broke something on their end. So until Avid deploys the fix it doesn't matter. I'd be surprised in 10.11.4 fixes anything since the problem has existed since 10.10

This has actually been happening to me since 10.9.5 and PT 11, so I think the issue is deeper than 10.10.x. I can only imagine they won't waste the resources to figure out why in that regard, so hopefully it will be fixed and free for everyone for a future update. Beat detective GUI lag workflow bums me out too - New to v12.

Yes, the problem has been getting worse since Mountain Lion. Fortunately, you can resolve most of the graphics issues up to Yosemite by running the Quartz debug app in the background. It causes some video tearing, But if you're not doing video it makes the meters respond properly. Sadly, there is no Quartz debug for El Capitan :-(

My understanding is that this graphics issue with ProTools has to do with poor coding from way back. ProTools for a long time has not complied with Apple standards regarding frame rate/refresh rates, and now it's reached a critical point with El Capitan, which frankly is unusable if you are relying on accurate graphics for metering, etc.

My advice would be to stay on Yosemite for as long as you can and hope that Avid makes this a priority once they get cloud collaboration out the door.

For those of you who believe that you have no graphics issues with 12.4 and El Capitan, try this:
Open up any session that has audio tracks.
If you have it, put a compressor like the avid pro compressor on any track.
Display the mix window.
Hit play and watch the track meters movement. They are relatively smooth.
Now while still in play, Open the plug in window for the compressor.
The meters in The mix window become slow, Jerky, and stuttering.
I can demonstrate this problem 100% on three different computers, including a 12 core Mac Pro and a brand new 5K retina iMac.

Yip. I have 5K Mac it was absolutely disastrous with El Capitan. GUI nightmare. Went back to Yosemite but still have issues with the PT counter meters when scrolling with my mouse. Basically the numbers stop. Nice huh.

I think this was the most important. The Mail program (I think whether you use it or not), is causing problems system-wide which can be fixed by deleting log files: https://discussions.apple.com/message/29062685#29062685

Reset SMC: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295

Trashed my Pro Tools preferences: http://www.sweetwater.com/sweetcare/...s-preferences/

I think these were all that were necessary, though I also did the following:

Then, I reset the Spotlight index: http://www.macissues.com/2014/12/12/...to-be-rebuilt/

Reset Calendar, too for good measure (unrelated to Pro Tools performance, whereas the Mail issue above, I think could be): https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7253362?tstart=0
I have a brand new Mac Pro with the laggy scrolling issue. I haven't even run the mail program, and haven't put anything on the calendar. Do you think that doing any of these things will help with the graphics issue?
