Cut Time Operation Erases Clipboard
When I am working on audiobook editing I have a clip of room tone copied to the clipboard so that I can paste it in wherever needed. However, when I use the cut time operation it removes my room tone clip from the clipboard and I have to copy it again. Wondering if anyone else experiences this and if there is a solution?
This issue does not occur when using the Insert Time operation. Thanks!

Re: Cut Time Operation Erases Clipboard
I’ll set up a secondary track for room tones, then if the clipboard gets cleared (yes, it happens) you can ALT-click (or Option-click) and drag it from a previous “paste.” (same as copy-paste.)

Re: Cut Time Operation Erases Clipboard
This happens for me, and it is expected.
It has happened for me for years as far as I know. Workflows as I know them: "Copy" --> "Paste" (no timeline changes, clips and automation copied are duplicated at cursor) "Cut" --> "Paste" (no timeline changes, clips and automation cut are moved to cursor) "Copy" --> "Insert Time" --> "Paste" (one timeline change, clips copied are duplicated) "Cut Time" --> "Insert Time" --> "Paste" (two timeline change, effectively time and clips are "moved") As far as I know, we don't have "copy time" or "paste time". I have not had need to make more complex my clipboard history access, but I have seen others on here mention clipboard apps, that let you go back in time to prior clipboard entries. Such an app might work really well in this situation where you intermittently want to Cut Time then go back to your prior room tone clip.

Re: Cut Time Operation Erases Clipboard
Would being in Shuffle, highlighting the amount of time you want to cut - you can enter it into any of the Counters and hit Enter - and then Deleting the highlighted area work for you? This shouldn't clear the Clipboard.
I've always found it useful that Pro Tools treats blank highlighted areas as if there was actually something there.

Re: Cut Time Operation Erases Clipboard
Yep, as Bruce suggested, Shuffle mode is a far better workflow, anyway. Cut Time is for music, when you need to cut tempo, meter, and key changes and all that. It's also great for making sure you cut an exact number of bars or beats. But for editing spoken word, just stay in Shuffle 99% of the time, and you'll be golden.

Re: Cut Time Operation Erases Clipboard
When I want to cut time and not shuffle, cut time is a better workflow haha. Of course shuffle has its use, but I want to "delete and slide all/ cut time" when I use cut time. Not just with music, but markers too for dialogue etc

Re: Cut Time Operation Erases Clipboard
Thanks sw rec and nednednerb for confirming this as a known issue and for the workaround ideas, much appreciated.
Thanks also for the idea of using shuffle mode, but my workflow relies on the use of markers, which as far as I know, will not stay locked in place with the audio unless using the cut time operation.

Re: Cut Time Operation Erases Clipboard
The marker lane needs to be selected for the markers to be shifted. (will work in Shuffle also)

Re: Cut Time Operation Erases Clipboard
Wow I didn't realize you could do that in shuffle mode, thanks mattrixx!
Seems like it could be a nice feature to be able to link the audio and ruler timelines in order to avoid having to shift + click the marker lane each time. But it's still faster than other workarounds I've been using so I'm grateful for that!

Re: Cut Time Operation Erases Clipboard
For sure, and users have been requesting that feature for years.
