Here's an very inexpensive thing I did and it worked wonders...
Check this photo:
http://www.heartmagic.com/zzBassTraps.jpg
I first identified all the problem areas of my room, (mostly the corners) and built my own cheap and effective traps by first placing 1/4" "foam core" art-board (#2/blue) over the corner with a few drywall screws, and then filling some plastic kitchen trash bags with raw fiberglass insulation, sealing them, and stuffing them in the corner behind the artboard (#3). I then glued sonofoam (#1/grey) on to the surface of the artboard for a little diffusion and nice appearance.
The kitchen bags keep the fiberglass from getting into everything, and make the installation a cinch. The room went from a live echo-y ugly sounding place to an extremely well behaved and good sounding recording area in about 30 minutes!

Hi, Look for a basic pannel resonator type as the Q is as broad as you want to make it,
Stay away from hermholtz & Resonant cavity types etc ,with high Q values.
When the Q is high you get phase distortion
eg.ripples either side of the the centre frequency.
Try Everest Handbook on Accoustics!
Regards to all,
Michael
