Default Apogee AD 8000 + PTLE?

Hi.

I wonder if this will work, seeing it uses the ADAT optical format.

What I hope for is to have another 8 balanced channels and still run PTLE on winXP.

Also, does anyone know how the Apogee Ambus DIGI 8 http://store.yahoo.com/mercenary-audio/noname.html works with PT? - or more correctly, how PT works with the Apogee hardware.

Thanks for your help.

Im anot sure about the other thing, but the AD8000 would work fine. You would plug 8 balenced line ins into it, it will then convert into digital and feed the 001 via ADAT in, it should be a simple setup.

i dunno bout the AMBUS either, but the AD-8000 would work.

my two cents; why would you want the AD-8000? it's so outragously expensive. for 1/4th the price, you could get the RME ADI-8 Pro. they are very similar in quality. or there's the Lucid ADA8824. or if you for some reason have to have Apogee, there's the Rosetta 800 coming out in July, for half the price of the AD-8000.

just my thoughts thou.

at http://www.bayviewproaudio.com/,

Apogee AD-8000 = $4,399
RME ADI-8 Pro = $1,345
Lucid ADA8824 = $2,099

and the Apogee Rosetta 800 comes out in July, it is going to retail for $2,995, Apogee says.

Yeah, thanks guys.

I dunno how the price got past me! Strange how even I can make mistakes.

I like the idea of the RME ADI-8 Pro, so thanks for putting me on to that one.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">First off, comparing the current AD-8000 to the RME or Lucid is utterly ridiculous. I have done multiple blind listening tests with the AD-8000 and AD-16 and DA-16 vs the RME and Lucid among other converters. Lets be clear. Nobody ever picks either of those boxes in a blind test with proper calibration over either the AD-8000, AD-16 or DA-16. Nobody.

Then there's the suspect review done a few years back that RME owners like to talk about done by a German magazine pitting the RME against a years old AD-8000 before any of the upgrades. Hmmm, a German magazine comparing a german converter that advertizes heavily in its magazine vs an American one. gee no bias there....

Additionally, let us not forget that the AD-8000 has been upgraded to some extent every year since its inception, so if you listen to an AD-8000 from 2003, you will here a greatly improved converter over an AD-8000 from, say 1997. Makes sense, right? So if someone tells you they heard an AD-8000 vs this or that and this or that sounded better, make sure to find out:

1)how old the AD-8000 was
2)did they calibrate it
3)how were the converters clocked (if the Apogee is the clock it is making the other converter sound better)

Bottom line: the AD-8000 is far and away above the RME and Lucid in terms of functionality and sound quality. Don't let anyone tell you differently. Additionally you get accurate ballistic metering, real-time format conversion channel routing etc. etc. etc.

If you still want to go cheaper, then the Rosetta 800 is a great alternative that will sound amazing.

DigiGeek, why dont' you just call yourself ApogeeGeek instead. coz everyone i've ever asked has said there is definitely a difference between the AD-8000 and RME ADI-8, but that it was a very small one.

whatever, if you love Apogee so much, good for you.

Easy on DigiGeek, he's only telling the truth. Also, the Digi 8 card for the AD8000 is for emulating an 888/24 on TDM systems. You can use it just as if it were a digi interface for Mix and HD systems.
