Protools and eleven rack - CONSTANT static during playback

Hi

New eleven rack owner here, hope it is the right place. Here's the deal. I know there's TONS of thread about intermitent bursts of white noise or static with pro tools. The thing is, I have some CONSTANT static during playback. If I record and I DO NOT play, the track if fine. As soon as the eleven rack is sending the guitar signal, the static is there.

Here's the goods to know :

Windows xp SP3
Protools LE 8.0.4
Pentium IV, 2gig of ram
80gig HD (I'll have to check about the RPM).
As you can see, I have only one HD.

Please not that I recorded for years with Sonar and my PODxt without any problems.

In the meantime, I'll just try to format everything and start over. It is well overdue anyway.

Be that as it may, this is not Sonar nor a PODxt.

To be able to assist you further with troubleshooting your issue, we're going to need to know a lot more about your system. Please read the "Help us help you - what you need to know before posting" thread and follow the instructions there for posting the specs about your computer that we would need to be able to help you.


Pro Tools is very particular about what computer hardware it "plays nice" with, and is not as forgiving as Sonar is. It very well could be that you have an incompatibility.
I would also like to say that a Pentium IV is a little "light" on the power side of things these days.

Every now and then the designers of the 11R will pop in. Also its where owners of the 11R trade ideas and help each other trouble shoot.

spkguitar is VERY correct in saying PT is not Sonar..... You need a physical separate drive to record to.

Thanks for the heads up. I was well aware that I missed some info, but maybe that issue could be really simple to solve.

Make sure you're not plugging the Eleven Rack into a USB hub. It needs to be plugged into a usb port on the computer.

No, direct in the PC. Even if I asked the question here, I need to do some of the basics :

unload my powerbar
Clean the PC

I'm not 100% sure that my PC is in NTFS too.

They we absolutely need a second HD btw or it is strongly recommended ?

Yes. You need a second hard drive, if you expect to get decent performance out of Pro Tools.

A Sandra report for us would be nice too...

Your motherboard has an SiS chipset. That is a definite show ender. You'll need a new computer.
