Angry 8.0.4 crackling noise during playback 003 Factory

Just installed 8.0.4 on Vista 32, HP 2.4 Quad core, 4GB RAM, 1TB external drive hooked up to PC VIA SIIG firewire card with TI chipset. Prior to the 8.0.4 update I didn't get any noise playing back tracks. Now I do. Any suggestions?

Do you have anything attached to the 003 via SPDIF or Optical? You might have lost the clock setting there. Otherwise, trash prefs and cross your fingers Mine works fine, but I am running XP.

Having the exact same problem. It's driving me nuts. Time to trash prefs and try again!

I know there are people running 8.0.4 in XP and Vista but my experience still holds that on my builds, W7/64 is far smoother and feels quicker.

I had a noise problem at first when I was checking out a project file once I instlaled 8.04. About every 5 seconds I'd get a "psshh" sound. I figured out it was amplitude. Turned it off and the noise sound stopped. Not a perfect solution by far, but worth checking if the noise is coming from a particular channel

Trashed my prefs and the crackling has stopped but I tried bouncing a track to disk and it started and then the sound dropped out and my 003 says it's offline. Now PT is just hanging. It's "Not Responding".

Have you tried the 'Run As Administrator' suggestion from the General Troubleshooting thread?
