Default firewire 1814 just stopped working!!

hi, my fire wire card just stopped working yesterday. it has been ok for the last 4 months, no probs whatsoever. my computer is latest spec and completely compatible. that i made sure of. i also checked for conflicting drivers( no probs there) and erased the old one. i downloaded the new one and installed it . still no luck! what i noticed is that some of the lights on front of the firewire 1814 come on and stay on, on the front panel on the firewire and spdif leds. i have been told that it could be one of 3 things. a bad firewire lead, a bad firewire output section on my motherboard, or just a faulty 1814 itself. every thing i bought for this set up is brand new!! and completely compatible. can any one help, or has anyone had any similar experience?? cheers darren
