First, you have to setup your windows desktop so that it is "extended" to the second monitor.

Then you have to manually stretch the main PT window across both monitors so that it fits, then manually resize the edit window on one screen, and the edit window on the other.

Also, some video cards have software (ATI, for example has Hydravision) that assists in this very task, and will maximize the "parent window" across both screens, and maximize the "child windows" to the single screens.

what card would anyone reccommend for this job, does it have to be a new one? i was looking on ebay and saw a lot of matrox g450 cards, 32mb, would one of those be o.k? or would it slow my system down? i am running amd x2 3800+ asus av8 deluxe mother board and unfortunately at moment 512 ram.essentially do i need an up to date dual head card?

The 450 should work ok. There are actually two different ones; the g450 has analog connectors, and the g450 MMS has DVI digital connectors. Select depending on your needs.

The p650 would probably work better, (I've got one on my wish list).

Best part about them both is that they are fanless (less noise).

A lot of the older dual head cards have one analog and one digital connector (my current one, the ATI 9200SE is like this). Dual digital will yield clearer displays, but only if you have monitors that can utilize it.

It really all depends on what your needs are. Just don't go PCI.

I have the Matrox 450 with 2 analogue adaptors on there. I did have one of the Nvidia GEforce cards which came with one analogue and one digital out put. I found that card huge in size and problematic.

I found alot of industry professionals went for the 450, I was recommended by one of the lads from SOS.

Good thing about the 450 is it's not bulky, inexpensive and extremely stable. I picked mine up from ebay for 30 and incurred no problems whatsoever.

And I second what SPK said "just don't go PCI" I say go for AGP 16MB or above

If you're going to a dual monitor setup, and the monitor's you are using are large (21 inch or so ) the Matrox P650 will cover you with higher resolutions...You can run 2 monitors and have them both up to 1600 X 1200 at the same time .. .....The card can be had online for about $150 if you look around ....It's also suppose to be a very stable setup ...I'm not sure if the 450 can go that high in resolution, but it's still a good simple card that will get the job done .....Jim
