Default G4-400 1gig ultra ata100

hello I've read thru previous post but i can't seem to get a solid answer. i own a g4-400 desktop mac and i am thinking of buying a digi-001
or 002 but it seems like their are unresolved issues. what i would like to know is what kind of
results to realisticly look for from this mac.
i see 32 tracks listed but is it possible with 001
i can get 40 tracks with audiodesk using automation and built in plugs but then i'm using LVD drives adaptec controller, motu 24i.and 2408.
i can record 24 tracks direct low latency no problem with this but my work is changing.
all i keep hearing is but do you have protools.
so i want to add digi to the other g4-400.
so that i have options for the pro-tools users
any solid advice is greatly appreciated in advance
I don't want to buy another mac i already have 2.
any one thats had real good luck tell me your real world results please!!!

I have about the same setup:

G4/400 AGP 1.12GB/RAM
digi001
Alesis AI3
Sonnet tempo ATA100
3 ATA drives, internal

I can get around 32 tracks played back and can record 18 tracks at a time. As far as playing 32 tracks with plugins, well...it's starts getting bogged down after roughly 20 plugins which works OK for me. That's mostly eq's and no reverbs.

Looking forward to getting a CPU upgrade so I can actually use some reverb here and there and not bog down.

Hope that helps ya!

Martin

hello martin:

Are you running OSX and PT6 on your G4? Are you running anything else then PT?
I was wondering of performance with the new OS/software for G4-400.

thanks,

My Setup is:
G4/400
1.13G Ram
ATTO Dual Channel SCSI
10G IDE System Drive
9G Glyph SCSI (OSX)
60G IBM Deskstar IDE (Audio)

I get the the same results as Vlad on my system except I only get around 15 Plugs with 32 Tracks. Maybe it is your extra drives, you think? I use ouboard verbs but it would be nice to use a few Renn Verbs. Latency is not an issue. It performs very well for such an old machine. What can I say, it's a mac? Go for the 001 but don't upgrade to PT6 unless you are getting a faster mac. PT6 is very sluggish compared to PT5.1 on OS9. For me it's unusable (is that a word).
