Will PT10/11 License Overwrite PT9 License On iLok?

Hey Everyone,

I bought the PT10 upgrade which included PT11. I'm upgrading from PT9 but have kept a PT9 machine running so I can be sure to access all of my sessions, plugins, VIs, etc.

First question: Do those PT10/11 licenses need to see the PT9 license on the same iLok in order to work (or is that just a nasty rumour)?

Second question: If I transfer those PT10/11 licenses onto my PT9 iLok will the PT9 license get overwritten on the iLok? In other words, will I still be able to use it in my PT9 machine?

The upgrade will remove the 9 license. It will be replaced by the 10/11 bundle.
But your old sessions will be fully functional with 10/11 (except for the yet missing plugins in 11 of course. But you can still use 10 meanwhile).

Ya, I know that all the sessions will be functional but a few of my plugins (ie. SoundToys V3), I don't think work in version 10. Just trying to assist the transition.

So can I put the PT10/11 license on another iLok (one that doesn't have PT9 on it)?

No, you have to surrender your license. Once you have 10/11 in your iLok account, 9 will be gone.

That's so strange because in looking at the PT10/11 license in the iLok License Manager there's nothing that indicates that it's an upgrade, or that it requires PT9 to be on the iLok that you transfer it to...



I don't see why I can't put the PT10/11 license on another iLok that doesn't have PT9. Has anyone tried this? All of my other iLoks are the older ones so they won't work or else I would have just tried it myself.

Because you can't. The ILM won't let you put the new license on an iLok without the 9 asset. Try for yourself. You'll get an error.

That sucks. I'll trust you on this one since the alternative is going out and buying another iLok. I just wish that they indicated all this somewhere in the account.

How does that suck?
You paid for an UPGRADE, which cost less, than a full license. How would it be fair, if you'd still be able to use both versions?

Hi,
does that mean, I have to manually transfer my iLok1 licenses first to the iLok2 within the ILM (untransfered license PT11HDfromPT9/10+CPTK),
or,
with both iLoks inserted into the PC (iLok1 with PT9/10+CPTK and iLok2 empty) and hitting "Surrender" will automatically transfer PT11HD to iLok2 and empty the iLok1 ?

Can't answer you that, since I don't use my iLok 1s anymore. Just try it, you have nothing to lose. Can't give you more than an error message.

Having said that, it's "anything can happen"-season at PACE, so...
