Suggestion for Digidesign (Programming Drums)
When programming drums on Cubase back in the day, they had a specific MIDI track type for drums that would only display the note as a small, consistently sized diamond... the color of the note (diamond) would change based on the velocity. This made editing the MIDI info. for the drum track extremely efficient. I haven't come across a drum machine/plugin that makes use of sustained notes, so why not just have a single graphic for the MIDI notes. I find myself after every record pass, opening the MIDI parameters and setting all the notes lengths to something that is easier to see & edit! Seems like it would be simple to integrate.
Anyone else find editing drums with sustained MIDI note graphics to be annoying? Anybody have any cool tricks to alleviate this problem? C. |

Re: Suggestion for Digidesign (Programming Drums)
Couldn't you use Real Time Properties to set a fixed duration, then write the changes to the track? I'm not too familiar with the real time properties and how convenient it would be to use, but it's worth a try..

Re: Suggestion for Digidesign (Programming Drums)
RTP Quantize or Input Quantize (Step Entry) defines location and duration. Multiple MIDI tracks viewed in 'Single Note View' with mirrored or non-mirrored outputs achieves the same results.
Pro Tools 8 now has 'Superimposed Note Views' that are also color coded by Velocity. MEW 'Default Note Duration' can now also conform to 'Follow Grid' values. Pro Tools Session Temples (.ppt files) with linked Media, Track data, etc., defined as a User Template makes a drum track view readily available, IMO. filosofem |

Great suggestion, I'll give it a shot. Thanks for the insight!
