Default Best methods for Performing PT Upgrades?

I am new to the upgrade business, but I want to go from 6.7 to 6.9.

Question...

When upgrading from one version of PT to a newer one, what is the best overall procedure?
Should one uninstall all applications (except XP) and start from scratch? Most importantly, are there any other tricks we should know?

There will be a detailed explanation of the install procedure in the download section. I've done a bunch of upgrades and I believe you delete the previous version of PTLE, but it should say.

Well...

I just did the upgrade from 6.1 to 6.4 and I didn't find the actual upgrade guide to be much help at all. It didn't even say to delete the previous version.

What I am looking for is people here who done a few upgrades and experimented with a few different approaches who may be able to shed some light on the process beyond what the basic guide tells us.

Thank you.

Just upgraded from 5.1.1.3 to 6.4 (001) - did a clean install from the 6.4 CD and it works a treat. Didn't have to go through the upgrade path either, just straight to 6.4. Don't know if that's the same with higher upgrades though.

Evidently 6.9 has to see the 6.7 install to proceed. Funny as the next thing it does is tell you to uninstall 6.7. I plan on cloning my entire 6.7 drive to a spare drive and do the 6.9 update on that. Any problems-I'll just put my working 6.7 drive back in and go. I have done every major upgrade this way(not cs updates) and it has paid off in a big way. With 80gig drives at $50 after rebates, I keep 3 on hand. A fully working 6.4 setup, my 6.7 drive in the machine and a cloned 6.7 drive for the next upgrade(6.9).
