MDWEQ6-AAX (6.0.3r31) and MDWEQ5-AAX (5.2.1r17) BOTH crashing PT 2021.6 Ultimate

MDWEQ6-AAX (6.0.3r31) and MDWEQ5-AAX (5.2.1r17) BOTH crashing PT 2021.6 Ultimate on HDX Catalina rig.

Anyone else having this issue?

I am running a 2020 Mac Pro.... super clean system... no VIs, and my rig almost never crashes. Seriously.

So I renamed my PT app before installing PT 2021.6 so I can always step back, but what happens next is weird...

I opened an existing older session in 2021.6 and pretty quickly I had a PT crash and the crash log generated said it was due to MDWEQ5-AAX (5.2.1r17)
Long time user of MDWEQ5-AAX (5.2.1r17) and NEVER had this issue, or any crashes due to MDWEQ5-AAX (5.2.1r17) ever. Never.

So I removed MDWEQ5-AAX (5.2.1r17) from my plugins folder, downloaded MDWEQ6-AAX (6.0.3r31) (I have a license for this, and yes I upgraded my iLok software to 5.3.3 GM (b3346, 37a3867eb8) to run MDWEQ6-AAX (6.0.3r31) as I know it wants the latest iLok software......

and restarted the Mac... and pretty quickly MDWEQ6-AAX (6.0.3r31) ALSO crashed ProTools, and the crash log said it was MDWEQ6-AAX

so this is weird. any thoughts as to why? and a fix?

FWIIW I was adjusting parameters on MDWEQ6-AAX when it crashed PT. :-/

Mine is working in Pro Tools Standard I think it's called. Version 6.

MDWEQ5-AAX (5.2.1r17) is running fine on my HDX with 2021.6 (on High Sierra). Both native and DSP.

update - i just installed the latest AAX version - a fresh download from MDW... vsn AAX-5B (6.0.3r39) - and it is still sometimes crashing ProTools... and i am saving the crash log that says that this plugin is the culprit.



I contacted their Tech Support about 5 days ago about this (with a slightly older version of the plugin) but I'll ping them again...

If you recall, adjusting parameters on MDWEQ5-AAX (before its update) also caused issues ... can you remember what you were adjusting on MDWEQ6-AAX (6.0.3r39) when PT crashed?




Posts #3 above says OK with MDWEQ6-AAX+ Installer 6.0.3r39 on 2019 Mac Pro as does Post #5 with MDWEQ5-AAX (5.2.1r17) on HDX with 2021.6 (on High Sierra). Both native and DSP.
OK too, for Post #4 - Mac Pro 2.66ghz/PTHD3-10.3.10/OS 10.9.5

Were you bypassing either the HPF band or the whole plug-in when Pro Tools crashed?

My post above here, about MDW running normal... can be forgotten, because just yesterday while using MDW, clicking from a MDW plugin to another channel MDW plugin, it suddenly got PT to hang. Stating with a sign MDW to be the fault.

It only happend once, after restarting PT, and working all day, it never appeared again.

offtopic: MDW did not happen again, but my Avid Artist went up in smoke... and the mix was not that hot yet....
