No go.

Had to revert to 2021.3.1

I guess the engine was a big rewrite. Unfortunately, that's a showstopper bug.

OSX Mojave, MacPro2012, HDX1, 2 x 888, 32gb

No offence, but I’d be more inclined to say this is operator error as opposed to a showstopper bug.

We’d have heard a pretty loud roar if this was a bug.

PT 2021.6
Windows 10 Home
Version 21H1
OS build 19043.1081

Don't know if it's the recent Windows update, PT 2021.6, or both, but my Pro Tools System Usage meters are now dramatically reduced at launch; I am happy about that.

Getting great performance on Windows 10. Just upgraded to a beast of a system- i9 10900K OCd to 5 ghz and running at 38 degrees celsius consistently. 128 GB of RAM. My finished mix sessions are about 32% cpu and I can leave the buffer at 64 even with heavy plugins like Sooothe, Fabfilter Pro-L, Slate FGX.

Performance on 2021.3 was not so hot on my previous system- a first gen i7 965 3.2 ghz with 12 gigs of RAM. Always had to do a lot of futzing with the buffer back and forth between tracking and mixing and the 2 prior versions of PT were giving me CPU errors with the same finished sessions hitting about 70% cpu spiking into 100%.

One thing I want to mention that should probably be obvious- the Windows Processor Affinity tweak needs to be re-entered after EVERY Pro Tools update. I forgot about that a couple months back and was seeing degraded performance. The i9 might not need it, but I’ve done it anyway for now since I like the idea of only windows using core 1.

Windows 10 here too. Smooth installation and I noticed some improvement in cpu usage. The system seems more powerful.

The only bad thing for me is about the colors palette in classic view. The colors of the tracks are very different from previous versions of Pro Tools.
I am not able the set the good old color of the master/aux/audio/instruments track presets. It seems all color from a column palette are the same on the header track.

Does Anyone notice that?

Do you set usage to only one CPU?
Does that work better?

Yes Hyper-Threading disabled and disabled one core. Couldn’t perceive a difference vs using all cores but I only built it 2 days ago so still need to test more.

I've never known Pro Tools to have this many bugs and things not working. Who is beta testing this now a days?

1. When applying a change on some plugins ala levels or threshold, it reverts back to where it was out of the blue or if I stop Pro Tools it does the same thing.
2. The color presets won't save in folder and won't let me save in numerical order either.
3. In the Plugin list, what is width? I thought it was going to let me see all the plugins by width ala vertically & horizontally which would have been really nice but I still have to scroll like it's 1999. I guess I have too many compressors/plugins...LOL
4. Love the dark mode but when installing a plugin on a track I can't tell if it's on or bypassed. Someone should have mentioned this in beta testing.
5. I missed Heat....So glad I kept it as it just adds so much flavor.

How long does it take now to fix bugs for Avid? Sorry, been using Pro Tools 11HD for a while which is stable but has a lot of bugs as well. So I thought by waiting a few years, they would have fixed everything.
I beta test major brands ala Black Rooster Audio, Fusion Audio, Pulsar and many others and would love to help out as I see this could be Avid's chance to come back if done right.

PM me Avid, Let me know.

Marc

Width refers to bus width.

Can anyone say why we now can't record with HEAT enabled?

Apparently it's not DSP anymore.

That's pretty much why. Seems it would have been a pain to recode it to work as DSP under the Hybrid engine. If you turn Hybrid off, you should be able to use the DSP version.
