Wait for sales on EZXs and MIDI packs. And remember, you can use EZX and the MIDI in SD3 as well, so there is no "losing" your sounds and MIDI if you decide to upgrade.

MIDI packs go on sale for $10 all the time. Stock up when they do.

And just a warning, after you start using EZ3 or SD3, you will want to buy everything else Toontrack makes

EZkeys and EZbass are both amazing to use and huge timesavers. Even if I don't use the sounds from EZkeys, I can drag the midi to a track and use with a Kontakt piano.

Thanks, Benoni.

So from what you're saying, it sounds like the key mapping for both EZDrummer 2 (and assumably, 3 when it comes out) is the same as it is for SD. Is that correct?

Broadly yes - there are some packs such as Latin, Action, some of the electronic stuff where it has to go off-piste. But 98% of the time the midi I use from anywhere across the range works with the kit I have loaded up.

I wrote their support if MIDI remapping was going to happen in EZ3 but nothing back from them.
Just heard back from Toontrack - no MIDI remapping in EZD3.

For just raw sound quality Superior Drums 3 is hard to beat. EZ and XL Audio Addictive Drums are great too. And, the UJAM drums are really fun and fast to get ideas. UJAM Kandy is a must have for cool disco/drum machine beats.

Honestly there's so much great stuff out there. The hard part is listening/thinking about how a particular drum sound "fits" in your music. If it fits, how easily can you customize various aspects. Most important is learning the finer aspects of editing programmed drums - big topic - but there are plenty of educational resources to help on Groove3.com for example.

These are kinda old, but some really great tips from Rabea Massaad:

(Just a PSA - Toontrack are doing an EZdrummer3 livestream walkthrough on April 29th, ahead of the pre-order deadline on May 3).

As I mentioned in another thread I just popped for Superior Drummer 3 and I'm loving it. A bit of a learning curve but nothing I can't handle. I'd thought about going the EZ Drummer route but there were too many workarounds especially in the MIDI department that just made it unusable for me.

Thanks again for the suggestions. I did end up getting EZDrummer 3, too.
