MIDI packs go on sale for $10 all the time. Stock up when they do. And just a warning, after you start using EZ3 or SD3, you will want to buy everything else Toontrack makes EZkeys and EZbass are both amazing to use and huge timesavers. Even if I don't use the sounds from EZkeys, I can drag the midi to a track and use with a Kontakt piano.

Re: Drum VI recommendations
Thanks, Benoni.
So from what you're saying, it sounds like the key mapping for both EZDrummer 2 (and assumably, 3 when it comes out) is the same as it is for SD. Is that correct?

Re: Drum VI recommendations
Broadly yes - there are some packs such as Latin, Action, some of the electronic stuff where it has to go off-piste. But 98% of the time the midi I use from anywhere across the range works with the kit I have loaded up.

Re: Drum VI recommendations
For just raw sound quality Superior Drums 3 is hard to beat. EZ and XL Audio Addictive Drums are great too. And, the UJAM drums are really fun and fast to get ideas. UJAM Kandy is a must have for cool disco/drum machine beats.
Honestly there's so much great stuff out there. The hard part is listening/thinking about how a particular drum sound "fits" in your music. If it fits, how easily can you customize various aspects. Most important is learning the finer aspects of editing programmed drums - big topic - but there are plenty of educational resources to help on Groove3.com for example. These are kinda old, but some really great tips from Rabea Massaad: Superior Drummer 2.0 - Programming/Editing/Mixing - Part 1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xTvRv-gjOs Superior Drummer 2.0 - Programming/Editing/Mixing - Part 2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OsJlbBAsR3s Superior Drummer 2.0 - Programming/Editing/Mixing - Part 3 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0f7vBuzGI3A

Re: Drum VI recommendations
As I mentioned in another thread I just popped for Superior Drummer 3 and I'm loving it. A bit of a learning curve but nothing I can't handle. I'd thought about going the EZ Drummer route but there were too many workarounds especially in the MIDI department that just made it unusable for me.

Re: Drum VI recommendations
Thanks again for the suggestions. I did end up getting EZDrummer 3, too.
