Then you alter it.

Historically, recording studios were only soundproof rooms with recording equipment. Today however, the conventional recording studio is a lot more complicated. There are microphones, amplifiers, mixing desks and loudspeakers in addition to the soundproofing equipment.

Ah...Ok.

So there used to be soundproof rooms with recording equipment.

I had no idea! The invention of the recorder came BEFORE the amp, speaker, AND microphone. Oh yes and soundproof rooms came before soundpfroofing (sic) equipment. What forethought the early crowd had!
