HDX cards are mostly used for tracking at near zero latency and make the CPU work less with higher plugin usesage and higher track count but don’t do that big difference when mixing down and boucing music if you don’t have massive sessions and score film etc

A M2 Mac or M1 Mac studio will do tracking very well and HDX systems like our HDX3 we use for tracking and same with our Carbon interfaces and HDX3 for some offload when those rare occasions we use any plugins that are DSP based (not counti g Melodyne S5 and Tools like that)

And since we use 99% high end outboards for that compression and eq’ing and saturation jobs in a song we might use 10-20% of the power of the HDX so absolutely no need for a hdx card/cards for mixing as a good spec Mac M will do the job even at high track counts IMHO of course :)

No difference in sound. AAX plugin code is identical in DSP/native. Only difference is, not all native plugins can live in memory constrained DSP environment.

This.

And may I add that near zero latency is only really achieved without pluigins. Every DSP plugin instantiated makes the automatic delay compensation move signals accordingly, and using native plugins makes it even worse than native-only systems (with no DSP latency).

In math language "DSP+native" > "native". Same held true with discontinued TDM systems, it is not an HDX thing.

much thanks for post ,

then if only DAW Cpu and no HDX-HD cards:
really no progressive "Audio Data Compression/Cut"
parallel to the increase number of plug ins and track activated ?

Track number depends on the tier of PT software license you have. Comparison here.
