Default Need help installing Pro Tools 12 for Mac El Capitan

Hello,

So I recently had my old mac pro (early 2009) crash on me. Pro Tools was running just fine on it. And to many people's surprise I was running Pro Tools 10.3.9 on El Capitan 10.11.6.

After having to re-install El Capitan I discovered that my old version of Pro Tools didn't work. I've contacted Avid and also put another post on here before and apparently I need Pro Tools 12.6 for my operating system.

I got a vague cryptic response from one of the Avid team basically saying it MAY work if I buy another perpetual license or subscription but it was unclear if I could actually install version 12.6 and have it working.

Does anyone know of any links to Pro Tools 12 where I could get it running again or any other solutions? I've also got an ilok 1.

Thanks for your help!

If possible please do a reinstall from your Time Machine Backup from the point when everything worked. Otherwise things can get complicated.

I had a customer and we only could fix a similar problem with installing Snow Leopard, then Pro tools 10.3.10 and then upgrade to El Cap. After that import old data, except Pro Tools!!!!, to your El Cap System.

Hope that helps

Best

I disagree. I never had a complete restore from TM work good. At least not in those days. TM might be better in later OS versions.

To the OP; PT10 was supported up to OSX 10.8.5. Some people had it working on 10.9, and some on 10.10 with glitches (like popup of inserts not showing until you mouse-over).

I'd say, start from scratch and install a good version OSX for PT10; 10.6, 10.7, or 10.8. Then install PT and keep it just for PT, and get a modern mac for everything else.

If you feel you really need PT12 or higher, for AAX or other functions, might as well go all the way to current version and modern OS/hardware. Nothing wrong with PT10, though. I still have my mac pro 2008 OSX10.6.8 and PT10.3.10.

Staying in the middle with old PT12 on an old OSX10.11 seems kinda pointless, I think.

Unfortunately I was an idiot in not setting up a Time Machine anyway.. I've already tried to reinstall Pro Tools 10 but El Capitan won't accept the installer on it's OS. Do you know of a link to Pro Tools 12?

The "link" to PT12 is buy a used license, or buy a current perpetual license (not subscription) and you will get access to and license to use PT12 (along with all versions up to current).
But easiest way back to a working PT10 setup, I still say; Fresh install of OSX10.6/7/8 and PT10 on a separate disk or a partition on your current drive.

Prior to PT12.6 you need to have "Pro Tools 12" license on your iLok, and if you do contact support for the installer.

PT12.6 and later installers can be found from Avid Download Center but your iLok needs to have "Pro Tools Perpetual" license with "Release Limit" date fresh enough to uhlock the version you need.

And here is the compatibility information.
