Can\'t hear midi playback
Can any1 help walk me through my problem: I am able to hear and record from my keyboard into pro tools midi tracks. Once I try to hear what I've recorded I am unable to retrieve it. I have created an aux track but I think my routing is screwed up. Can any one give me an example of what the routing should be. I am using Mbox 2. Thanks

Re: Can\'t hear midi playback
MIDI Cable from keyboard MIDI output to mbox2 MIDI input.
MIDI Cable from mbox2 MIDI output to keyboard MIDI input. Audio cables from the keyboard audio output to mbox2 audio input. Create an instrument track, set the MIDI input to the mbox2 MIDI input port, set the MIDI output to be the mbox2 MIDI ouput port. Set the audio input of the intrument track to be the main audio inputs of the mbox2. To record to the track, record-enable it and press record (F12). This only records the MIDI data from the keyboard to the instrument track. If you want to record the audio to an audio track, you will need to bus the output of the instrument track to a record enabled audio track.

Re: Can\'t hear midi playback
Another midi question.....
Thanks spkguitar that tip solved my problem. Being new to midi recording, my next question is how do I get the midi parts such as 10 drums to all correspond from the keyboard I'm using (Roland Fantom) to the midi inputs and outputs in Pro Tools? I can hear and record drums but I also hear a piano in the recording and playback. Thanks |

Re: Can\'t hear midi playback
MIDI channels are what you are looking for. Each MIDI track should be set to a separate MIDI channel that corresponds to the channel of the instrument/patch on the fantom that you are trying to trigger.
You will probably also have to set the fantom a certain way to accept and perform the data in this fashion, but I don't have a fantom, so I can't tell you for sure. Check your manual. Do you also have an internal sound card? You may also be triggering that in some way by mistake, but that's just a guess (and yes, that has happened to me).
