It's described under standard troubleshooting under "help us help you" up the top of every DUC web page, pay attention to what versions are being talked about. If something is wrong there/not working for you then please say what exactly so it can be fixed for others.

Or use Pete Gates very good PT Prefs utility. http://petegates.com/pg-pt-prefs.html

There is nothing specific to Ultimate. Studio is the same for example. Intro also likely the same. And to be nit picky/clear you are running macOS not OS X.

This is where Windows users get jealous, the amazing and wonderful Peter Gates only has that app for Mac.

There's an awful lot of clicks and steps in the Help Us To Help You section for Windows users to get the info, so for simplicity here's the Windows 10 instructions for all versions of PT after PT12:

Quote:
Close all sessions and quit Pro Tools.
Click the Windows Start Menu.
Click File Explorer.
Click This PC in the left column.
Double-click the C: drive.
Open the Users folder.
Open your current user account name folder.
Open the AppData folder.
NOTE: If the AppData folder is not showing, click the View tab at the top of the window, then check Hidden items above Show/hide.
AppData should now be viewable.
Open the Roaming folder.
Open the Avid folder
Rename the Pro Tools folder to Old Pro Tools.
Open Pro Tools to regenerate all the preferences.
I've always wondered if it's necessary to trash all the files in that folder. Usually end up doing it anyway.

I guess this begs the question, how often do users typically need to trash their PT prefs on average?

First thing to try whenever anything goes awry with Pro Tools and after any OS update.

Personally - I'm on Windows - every Sunday I look for updates to iLok, Waves and others and Windows and Trash and bring back my Preferences.

As always, YMMV,

Whenever you have a problem, first thing to try when troubleshooting. How much that happens for you nobody can guess.
