Default Can You Work With Pro Tools without Crash????

Can You Work With Pro Tools for few minutes or hours without Crash????

I have been Work with Pro Tools Since 6.1, crossing for every versión, and Since 10 & 11 I have All the Time Computer Freeze, Crash, Not Respond, etc, etc, etc. On Windows 7 & 8, (Trying 2 diferent Motherboard, Both With i7...(930 and Now 4771K) and Mac OS 10.8 & 10.9......I waste a lot of time with Crashes and freezings, 16GB Of Ram on Both Mac & PC, So AVID is Ready to put 10.3.8 or 10.3.7 or 6 and So on the Computers?.....It is. Or Is Just Me and my Mac BookPro or My Custom PC......I can go in 3 days and Buy a Mac Pro and Spend 3, 4, or 5 Grand and get the same kind of issues with that expensive Mac Pro. With Pro Tools 11 open the Workspace and you get a Crash.

So Is AVID ready to Pro Tools 11, Is it?

So I'm goin to take a sabbatical year! away from AVID and Pro Tools.

I hope in this year. AVID take seriously custumers like me. while I change to Steinberg where I should never have gone!!!!

Cheers and Happy New Year!!!! AVID Staff!!!!

Let me try this again - I had typed a whole response and it disappeared.

Yes it is possible to run PT without crashes. You just need to take a deep breath, have some patience and properly setup your computer. Make sure your plugins are all up to date. Remove any third party plugins to the unused plugins folder and see what happens then slowly add them back in.

You could also strip everything back down to basics. Re-install a clean copy of the operating system. Install new clean versions of PT. Try that and see what happens. If all is well add back in one at a time your plugins. Note that there are some developers that are having problems getting their stuff to work in PT11 but that's not a PT problem.

PT crashes are usually not the fault of PT itself but either a rogue plugin or hardware driver. There are plenty of people using PT successfully elsewise you'd have no cd's being produced and most movies would be silent.

Usually, but not always. We're intensely strict, rigid and in-tune to our systems and the dos and don't and yet we still get crashes. There's an awful lot going on inside the computer and the attached peripherals and it only takes one particular kind of hiccup to cause a crash. Think about it - personal computers have been around for ages, with brilliant minds developing and improving the OSs and 3rd party software and yet there's still no crash-proof solution. There will be, eventually, but the On/Off button is still on the front of your computer for a reason.

Regarding PT specifically, I can't think of any version which was entirely stable. There's little money in these remedies - plenty of money in new features - so, unfortunately, some bugs don't get the attention they need.

Also, staying current on software shouldn't be your goal as some updates are actually more problematic than older versions. What you need to do is stay current with the newest version which is stable. That's not easy because there's no central database which tracks this info.

I may have found a solution to

"Could not complete the Open Session... command because Assertion in "..\ ..\ FF\ Audio\ FF_AudioFile.cpp", line 978.

(Use the Copy button to copy this message to the clipboard.) "

I imported an OMF, and did about 5 hours worth of editing, shut down and went back to work on it the next day and got this error. The session wouldn't open at all in PT 11, and would say I'm missing files from PT10. I know I clicked "copy on import" for the audio files so what the hell?!

Turns out it looks like it did both, created a set of regions that referenced the original OMF, and the ones that were on the tracks referenced the correct audio. In PT10 I cleared the regions, saved, then re-opened in 11 without a problem.

In other words, clear your unused regions from the region bin after importing! (Windows - CTRL + SHIFT + U, then CTRL + SHIFT + B)

The assertion error usually happens when the Prefs and have been corrupted somehow. I usually don't have these problems after I delete old prefs and volumes files. There is some info on line about this and how to do it. I am on a deadline otherwise I would go into more detail.

P.S. It you are running PT 11, if you use Protools Prefs and database helper, use the newer version for that product.. NOT the older version. Protools Prefs V. 2 IT's designed by Peter Gates.. Great Product for people that don't understand the procedure and basically need something to do it for them. Give you a LOT of options-:)

SORRY>. Thought it said V2 I posted the 1.2 version. HERE IS THE NEWEST VERSION HERE TO DOWNLOAD: https://www.dropbox.com/s/d7szj1osbe...PT%20Prefs.zip
