Default Need an advice

Hello,
I have actually a notebook and want to purchase a workstation for PTLE and 002R.
I think i will purchase a HP XW6200 XEON based workstation and want to have informations about
compatibility with PTLE 6.4 and after upgrade 6.9 for digi 002R.
(I change my station because of problems since 2 years with IEEE embended port)
(Notebook ACER TM800 - PM 1,7 ghz - 512 Mo - XPSP2)

XW6200:
1 Proc XEON 3,2 Ghz/800 FSB - 2Mo L2
Mem 2 GB registered
HD1: 80 Go - 3b/sSATA 7200 tpm (System + PTLE only)
HD2: 160 Go - 3gb/s SATA 7200 tpm (Datas)
IEEE PCI Card (form HP don't now subcontractor)
Video ATI FireGL V3100 PCI-E
Basic audio sound blaster audidgy 2Z PCI
DVDR 2layer.
System: Windows XP PRO SP2

Is users have this kind of computers for PLTE?
Is it ok for PTLE + OO2R?

have good music
(I'm french so my english is very bad )

A good move to start with would be to read through the "Best Desktops for PTLE" thread at the top of this forum. There is a truckload of good information there. Also check the Digidesign compatibility documents. Post again if you still have questions after that.

Thanks for you reply.
I have browsed a lot of time the Compato section and found nothink about XEON procs and Intel E7xxx chipsets.
Maybe this processor is not supported by digi but i seen certified workstations in French distributors price lists (Bundel PTLE + 002R + Dell Precision 670 nono proc based on Xeon).
For the "Best Desktop" Section in this forum, if you search with Xeon keyword, nothink...

Digi not interested by these workstations??
Or don't want to communicate informations about ?
Where can i find some informations about Xeon based worksations with PTLE and 002R??
Do i have to certify my station if i purchase it and communicate myself all technicals issues, performance tests to digi??

In french because i don't know how translate it:
Le logiciel Protools est sans doute le meilleur produit actuellement mais franchement, au niveau
matériel ça craint un max les gars, faudrait voir à être un tentinet plus sérieux et proposer,
par exemple des fiches techniques regroupant les conditions de compatibilités avec les différentes
plateformes disponibles (y compris les Xeons ) et dans plusieurs langues, parce qu'on est pas tous agrégés en anglais, on essaye juste de faire de la musique avec un système stable.

Good music for all

I think you're better off with some of those allenstein machines or maybe one of those new Terra Digital Audio pc's ( just checkout specs and try to rebuild it ofcorse *smile* ). I really don't see your point of getting a xeon pc with only 1 cpu. I run a dual xeon and i never could get those DaveC test like those brand new AMD-64bit machines. The only gain i have is that i am able to stress the cpu to 99% instead of 80% in protools setup. This gives me slightly more cpu power. This is ofcourse with evry dual cpu system. Xeon cpu's are made tho work under constand heavy stress and have a real sweet safty temperature system buildin. Even without a cooler they would work by figure of speaking, if they get to hot they slow themself down. The only bad thing about those xeons is, they cost 3times the price of an ordenary cpu and there devellopment is slighty behind the other cpus. So that's why they don't perform like those brandnew ones i think. I build my system for avid, so that's why i went for the xeons. But my next pc i build is definitly gonna be the one that's performs best on this forum ;-)

Cheers
Bossi
