Re: 888/24 setup on mix system
What do you mean exactly by Superclock?

Re: 888/24 setup on mix system
instead of regular wordclock, the 888's use Superclock. you symptoms sound like a clocking issue.

Re: 888/24 setup on mix system
Where is the setting to select superclock? Can you describe the menu / screen where I change this? Is it in hardware setups or somewhere else? Thanks so much! Russ

Re: 888/24 setup on mix system
Superclock is the 256x clock generated from the slave clock output of each interface. Make sure you have a short BNC cable connecting the slave clock output of the 882 to the slave clock input of the 888. The 888 will then show the "slave" designation on the front panel automatically.

Re: 888/24 setup on mix system
I had a very interesting finding today. My other engineer friend was over today. We opened an old session of mine that was created in 44.1. I recorded with the 888/24 successfully. Then I opened up the session I was working in which was created in 48 at another studio where I was having the problems. I thought for sure it was some incompatibility with the session itself versus the hardware. Then, I created a new session in 44.1, a new session in 48, and opened the original 44.1 session that worked successfully. However, all 3 sessions failed to record properly. They still had static / distortion even when the track didn't peak out. Apparently, I can open a session 'sometimes' and it works, but then after opening and closing the session, I get different (bad) results. The settings on the preamp did not change. The microphone didn't change either. Any more ideas? Thanks. Russ

Re: 888/24 setup on mix system
I have a MIX 24 system (just one core card). I am running MAC OS x 10.2.8 with Pro Tools 6.1. I spent a lot of time talking to Pro Tools and going through multiple configurations. Unless I upgrade to an HD system, I am at the highest compatible version of OS and Pro Tools version for the old MIX systems. Thanks again for your help. Russ

Re: 888/24 setup on mix system
Will upgrading to 6.4 fix my problem? Don't I have to upgrade my entire MacIntosh to 10.3 (and reload all of my programs) in order to load 6.4? Thanks! Russ

Another known possibility is bend pins in the interface cables. Take a good look at that with some strong glasses.
