Default KRK V8 versus Mackie HR824.......opinions?

Just wanting anyone's opinions if you own either of these monitors, or if you have A-B'ed them and have some pro's and con's regarding one or the other.

I have heard good things about both of these and notice they are similarly priced. Just looking for some educated opinions of people who have worked with both.

Thanks!

The KRK V8 are 500 each, the Mackies HR824 are cool but the KRK has a better sound to me I have the V8 and they sound great. I worked with the mackies side by side and the krk's took it..

I own the Mackie monitors for some years now along with Event 20/20's. The Mackies are really good with the lows and Highs but the Events actually have better Mids. All in all the Mackies are worth the $ and my best monitors.

we use the mackies at school (new england school of communications, bangor, maine) and i have to say that they are not my favorite monitors. there is far too much low end for my taste. i don't find that the mixes i do on the mackies translate well to other systems. that's my 2 cents.

the KRK's have too much bass for my taste; I don't feel like they represent the spectrum very evenly. I don't have any experience w/the Mackies, but everyone tells me they are very bass heavy. Once I can afford it, I think I'm going to try to find a pair of old 6" Genelec 1030A's... I think that's the model I have at school, anyways.

I really suggest that you A/B these monitors for yourself at your local music retailer. I spent about two hours listening back and forth between the KRK's and the Mackies with various music styles. In the last five minutes, I asked to listen to the Event Precision 8's and in less than thirty seconds made my decision for the Event P8's. Balanced and smooth.

I mix in my studio between the Event Precision 8's and a pair of NS-10s. I find that my mixes represent well outside of the studio. I wouldn't call the Events flat, but I prefered them to the Mackies and KRK which I thought hyped the top and bottom.

The only negative to the Events is there aren't many commercial studios using them, therefore if you take your mixes to a commercial studio, you won't have a familiar monitor referance.

The Events are in the same price range but my guess is that any of these choices will serve you well.

My two cents.

Ross

I agree. I own the event precision 8's and I love 'em. And some of the high end studios are starting to pick them up as well. I used to intern at studio 880 in oakland, CA and they just got a pair. I've also seen people bring their own into The Plant in sausalito, CA where I am currently interning.

Hope this helps a bit,

jonnn
