Default AD 800 or Rosetta 200

Hi

Should I go for a used Apogee AD 800 or a new Rosetta 200 to go along my PT Mix?

I need good converters and a good clock in one unit.

Any advice?

Thanks

GS

I've not looked at Apogee stuff for a while, but were you asking about AD 8000 or is there an AD 800 now? I have logged a lot of hours with AD8000s and AD-16s. If you meant an AD8000 I might be able to give you SOME feedback but, I've not used the Rosettas. I hear they sound great though, and I'm pretty confident that they use the same clock as the others. A used "8000" depending on the price, it's configuration, and your needs is always a great choice.

In general, I've found Apogee stuff to have great sounding AD/DA converters and they have great clocks. If you only need 2 channels of D/A and a great clock, you'll probably be really happy with a Rosetta. Again, I've not used that piece, so take that comment on it's own merit or lack therof. If you want more outs and extra inputs as well, or the ability to add more, F.I., if the 8000 you looked at is a basic unit (and again, I'm only assuming you don't need that because you didn't ask about much else in your post) you probably wouldn't need an 8000 unless it IS packed with extras, and it's a great price, and you plan on using those extra features or again, you plan on adding them in the future.

I've had both AD-16s and AD 8000 cmverters in the past, and I loved them. I just stopped using them when I got my 192 I/O with 16 in and 8 out, and that really was not because I didn't want to use the Apogee products anymore, but because, at the time I was more interested in getting both a better trade in (yo soy un el cheapo) and they also didn't support higher than 96K back then and I was simply curious how stuff recorded at 192K was going to sound.
