S1 track color switches - view/hide plugin?
Hi all,
My apologies if this has been asked and answered before, but does anyone know a way to assign one of the S1's track color switches to view a specific plugin with one press and then hide it with the next? Specifically, when I'm mixing I'll often take a quick peek at Waves PAZ on my master to see what's going on with phase, volume, etc. I'll take a quick look, close the plugin and then get back to business. I've been trying to think of repetitive things I do while mixing that could be made a little simpler by assigning them to the color switches, and this was one that came to mind....but I'm not sure there's a way to do it. The only thing I could think of off hand was to create a window configuration in PT that shows that plugin and then assign that to one of the switches, but that only halfway does the trick because I can't just press that switch again to hide the plugin. I could create a second window configuration that has the plugin hidden, assign that to another switch and then use the two switches as show/hide, but that would take up another switch and I'd rather not dedicate a second one to something like this. Any advice on how I can make this work (or if I even can)? If it helps, my master bus is the only thing I ever use a track preset for, so I know PAZ will always be in the same insert on every session. Is there a command to 'show/hide insert X on track Y' that I could assign to one of the track color switches? Any help is much appreciated!

Re: S! track color switches - view/hide plugin?
The Window Configuration recall is a good idea. Unfortunately there is no way to assign dual custom commands to physical surface key in EuControl with a delay in between the commands. You can always use Command+Option+ Control+W to hide all floating windows on screen after recalling the PAZ window. It’s not as smooth of workaround but it’ll get the job done. Now, if you have Keyboard Maestro, you could make a macro that can be assigned to color S1 key along with Window Config recall command. This macro can have a timer to execute the second command to close the PAZ winder after a set number of seconds.

Re: S! track color switches - view/hide plugin?
Thanks for the info!
I thought about the 'hide floating windows' command, and that would work but it also lacks the simplicity I was hoping to achieve by using a single button to show/hide. I could assign that command to another button but then I'm back to using up an additional button. Or I could use the key command but that adds an extra step. I'll have to give it some thought! I'm not familiar with Keyboard Maestro though, I'll have to look into that. Sounds like that might work well enough.

KM needs to run in the background for the Macros to execute but it doesn’t interfere with any Pro Tools functions or utilize a ton of resources. If you need any help making the macro feel free to PM me |

Re: S! track color switches - view/hide plugin?
Here's the built macro with a timeout of 5 seconds to close the PAZ window.
This is built with window configuration recall .1* You will need to customize it for your specific window config slot. You can also adjust window close time in the macro. The EuControl settings show what you need to assign in the softkeys to make your User key trigger the Macro. You'll see the key combination in my pic. |
