Cool Protools 7.4 And the HP 8710w. PLeassssse make it work lol

Hey Guys,

I bought myself a brand spaken new HP Compaq Mobile Workstation 8710w and am struggling to get Protools going. I have a 003 Factory and Pro tools 7.4.

The problem i keep getting is when its loading up, it stops at Loading DAE objects and throws the "DAE 1115 error was encountered". I simple have a cable (6 to 4 pin firewire) go from the laptop to the Mbox 003. Can anyone give me some advice. I've read in the forums that a few people have it going on that laptop model so hopefully someone here can solve the problem. Would be very much appreciated!!

Also, just before it loads the DAE objects, it says "loading video hardware" then video hardware failed to initialize. Is that whats causing the problem? Or do i get that failed to initialize cause I dont have a Mobo connected to it.

Ive also read the basic trouble shooting for winXP and still cant get it to work.

Heres a report of my computer also just incase you need it:

I am no genius but here are a few things come to mind. You have some terminology confused. The 003 is not an Mbox 003. and ......"I dont have a Mobo connected to it." makes no sense so I don't know what you mean. First off, update Windows XP to SP3(my 7.4 install required it). Turn off wifi and exit any anti-virus programs while installing or running protools. I would also check to see that you have the latest video driver for your laptop. It is really important to follow the install instructions in the Getting Started Guide so maybe read thru it one more time(if you treat it like every other install, it may not work). This comment, "...it says "loading video hardware" then.... " makes me wonder if you checked off some otions(when you installed) that you maybe should not have. At this point, I would maybe go to Start>Control Panel>Add/Remove software, and uninstall protools and try a fresh start. Ultimately, once you get protools running, you will want to add an external firewire drive for sessions. Get one with the approved Oxford chipset and 2 firewire 400 ports so you can chain(from the laptop 4 pin, to the drive 6 pin, then daisychain to the 003). The internal drive may work okay for small sessions but a separate audio drive is required for anything serious. Some safe choices are: OWC, Glyph and LaCie D2 drives.

IIRC -1115 errors are firewire related. The firewire card in the laptop may not have a supported chipset. albee's advice about disabling AV, network and WiFi is also correct.

Cheers,

Hey guys,

Thanks for replying!
But still no dice!

Yeah i see i got the terms wrong a bit. I have a 003 rack not an mbox (my bad lol) and i thought mobo was some sort of video thing you attach to the rack, but then i found out its short for motherboard! so n/m that part in my problem.

I installed SP3 but still get that exact same error! (1115 when loading DAE objects)

Has anyone else got this laptop so atleast I know it has a possibility of working!

thanks again!

Have you tried all the steps in the General Troubleshooting thread?

If not - that's where I'd recommend you start. You might want to jump right to posting a Sandra report, so that we can see what we're working with. Most likely you have a system with an unsupported FW chipset - you may have some options there, but it would depend on the compatibility of the rest of the system.

The Everest report isn't telling me enough - can you try Sandra again? Or, if not Sandra, then PC Wizard (www.cpuid.com)?
