2024.6- CPU overloads when stopping transport
My super-stable system is no more following installation of 2024.6.
In my composing template and every session based on it - there are getting on for 200 tracks - mostly Instrument Tracks fed from VE Pro. Whenever I hit stop - there’s a massive 100% CPU overload on every core which lasts a good few seconds and PT is unresponsive. During the overload, the MIDI activity monitor on every channel within VE Pro goes crazy although I can’t hear anything fortunately! I’ve done much troubleshooting including deleting PT prefs twice with PT Prefs 2. I’ve deleted VE Pro prefs and also re-installed it. I’ve also uninstalled every new plugin I’ve added in the last few weeks. Everything is at the current version. So far - I’ve concluded it’s related to FabFilter Pro Q-3. I have it on every track in my template. If I make every Q-3 instance inactive - the problem goes away. If I replace Pro Q-3 with the Avid EQ III 7 band - the problem goes away. Previous to 2024.6, there wasn’t an issue. I’ve also turned MIDI off in every instance of Pro Q-3. If I make inactive the five instances of VE Pro in the session, again the CPU overs stop. I’ve been working on two other sessions with no VE Pro but lots of Pro Q-3 instances with no problems. Any ideas?

There was a FabFilter update about a month ago. Try that.

Thanks.
Yes that's the version I have installed and I actually re-installed it this morning!

Re: 2024.6- CPU overloads when stopping transport
I’ve rolled back to 2024.3.1 and the CPU overloads have stopped. Normal service is resumed.
At least on my system - it seems there’s something funky going on between PT 2024.6 and VE Pro.

Re: 2024.6- CPU overloads when stopping transport
Hi Marsdy,
we have exactly the same problem on our MacPro 5,1 HDN systems. M1 macs with core audio running fine. Posted it here: https://duc.avid.com/showpost.php?p=...8&postcount=15 Opened case no. 04822896 We use Pro-Q3 a lot in our templates. When I have some time between projects, I'll try 2024.6 again with deactivated Pro-Q3. Best Maik

Re: 2024.6- CPU overloads when stopping transport
If anyone here is using the plugin Scaler, I found that this was giving this exact behavior. Make it inactive or remove it from your session.

Re: 2024.6- CPU overloads when stopping transport
Yeah, I just tried Pro-Q3 and Pro-Q2 on 200 tracks and I get the same results. 100% CPU Spike when you stop the song. This didn't happen with Pro Tools 2024.3.1. I'm also finding other plugins with the same issue like the SSL 360 Link Plugin.

Re: 2024.6- CPU overloads when stopping transport
Ah the old days of de-normalization problems triggering CPU overloads with stopped transports. No clue what the issue is here, but if nothing else the pain may be nostalgic...

Thanks for confirming it’s not just me and isolated to my system!

Re: 2024.6- CPU overloads when stopping transport
Hi there
quite similar here (See attachment): "Pro Tools timed out trying to stop" on low (<256 Samples) buffer sizes. Pro Q 3 is in the session and quite a bunch of VI's and so on. I regularly need to "Force Quit" Pro Tools after such an event as it freezes after playback stop. 2024.3.1 worked flawlessly with low buffer settings.
