Default Hardware Buffer Size errors (9092, 9094, 9129)

I have recently upgraded to a new computer, but had this same problem with the older computer as well. When playing back a session on PTLE 8.0.1cs2 (with original Mbox), playback will stop and I will get an error message telling me to increase the H/W buffer size. I will bump it up from, say, 512 to 1024, and almost immediately I will get an error message saying to DECREASE the H/W buffer size. Damned if I do and damned if I don't.

I did a search of the forum, and found a few similar problems, but none that I felt were close enough to make me feel comfortable following the recommended steps.

Can anyone help me out? I'm only using about 40% of my CPU and 20% of my RAM, but my sessions are still breaking down.

By the way, I have programs/plugins on the C drive and am writing/reading audio from the E drive.

Here's a Sandra reading:

Default Re: Hardware Buffer Size errors (9092, 9094, 9129)

Just a quick update:

This 'crashing' seems especially likely when I click on the horizontal scroll bar (to sweep across tracks in mix view or time in edit view). If I Shift+scroll with the mouse, I'm usually okay, but clicking on the bar and dragging it is almost guaranteed to crash.

Hope that helps!

Okay, I THINK my problem is solved. I couldn't believe that "your processor isn't cool enough" was the be-all-and-end-all answer, so I did some more tinkering. I went into the BIOS and found that someone (read: me) had enabled the built-in graphics card to support a multi-monitor setup. This goof apparently activates the built-in graphics card (which is usually automatically deactivated if there is an outboard graphics card connected, or so I understand) and this seems to have been causing the hardware conflicts during the scrolling.

I disabled all the things relating to the built-in graphics card in BIOS, rebooted, and my computer has been running along quite well since then. Maybe this can help someone else?

NS3474, can you tell me how to attempt this same fix? I purchased a support call from Avid, but after the level 1 tech could not resolve it, I have yet to receive senior tech call back after 3 weeks of waiting and repeated messages back to them. Frustrated.

I recently got a Dell Latitude ES6520. My previous Dell did not get this issue, but upon starting to use PT8 on this one, I have been getting the exact scenario you outlined. I am using a docking station with an external monitor, which makes me think you could be on to something and that I should try what you did. Please help if you can!

Thanks,
Mike

Glad you got your problem fixed BUT........Shea is right also your main drive (C) has a 8MB cache.......that is problematic also......Kinda of a thruput issue.

If you could upgrade your processor that is good too...but if you don't have the cash all is well. Really just depends how heavy your session is.

I run PT8 on a work laptop with an i3 proc. and it doen't handle anywhere near the session power that my home recording desktop runs.....FYI
