Yes, it's possible - you would need a guitar to MIDI convertor like the Roland VG series (or using the GK pickup with another convertor), the Axon or the GraphTech Ghost.

These will convert your guitar string vibration into MIDI signals, which you can then play through Pro Tools and control and MIDI synth, sampler or other device.

No, that's not what's going on behind the scenes.. An Amp sim is a signal processor, kinda like a guitar pedal.. audio goes in one end and comes back out the other side, but altered in some way..

Not sure about the realtime audio to MIDI, but I don't think this would give satisfactory results on guitar. All 6 strings can be doing different things ( a couple getting bent, a couple muted, a couple open, etc..) and a Guitar MIDI pickup and converter system (like Roland or AXON) allows all these things to get turned into MIDI data.. I think even deciphering chords would be difficult or impossible for a straight Audio to MIDI plug-in..

YAMAHA EZ-AG i think is the best option, http://www.ombmusic.co.uk/Yamaha%20EZAG.htm
like a ztar but cheaper.

not got £400 for a pickup for my guitar a ztar is grand plus but YAMAHA EZ-AG you can get for under 200.

That depends on which interface you have. Most of the current LE interfaces have a 5pin MIDI connection, so you could just use that. Otherwise, yes, you would need some sort of MIDI i/o to connect a MIDI device to your computer.

I got the mbox 2 mini when you first buy it you think that will be good enough and you learn how to use the program
and few months down the line you think why the [bleep][bleep][bleep][bleep] did I not get the Mbox Pro.
