Default 2 Computers + 1 Digi002R connected via FW Switch?

I couldn't find my original post, so here i go again.

i was wondering if anyone's connected 2 computers to a Digi002R (or other like interface) via a firewire switcher?

my situation.
I'd like the ability to have 2 computers connected to my Digi002R, and external firewire drives. i wouldn't use both computers at the same time; i'd only use one or the other if my CPU starts to lag.

i currently have a G4 desktop DP867 2gbRam, and am thinking about getting an intelMacBook, macbookpro, or mini (which would out perform my desktop).

if i'm running a session on the desktop G4, and my CPU is slows down, i'd like to "switch" to the newer computer, open the session and continue to work on the new machine.

anyone currently doing this? any feedback?

thanks!
peace.

Well the rack has 2 ports on it so that shouldn't be a prob; just a matter of switching the drives from 1 to another; Of course if ur wanting identical setups, depending on ur plugs, u may need 2 iloks, install everything on each, etc...

I'd be pretty suspicious of using some kind of switch.. It sounds like human error, even one time, could make problems.. Unplugging and replugging cables really isn't that much trouble

The other thing is that any of the new Macs, including the Mini, would grind the g4 into the dust. I think if I were in your shoes I would quickly become totally dissatisfied with the performance of the G4 and simply start and finish on the new Mac (whatever that ends up being). Kind of like going back to dial-up after getting to work on High-speed internet..

YMMV
