Default Anyone else upgrade to the new OS 10.4.8?

I think that's the latest. But I went ahead updated -- caught me off guard as I was doing some other stuff. But I haven't noticed any difference with PT. Anybody else? So far, everything's copasetic.

Okay, so maybe not so copasetic. I installed my Waves GTR today. Everything went swimmingly. However, when I go to open a new project I get a message that says soemthing to fact of the folder for that drive is not available, or I get a "session must be on an audio record volume." What?!

Again, I absent-mindedly upgraded to the new OS. Two questions:
1.) Does anyone see anything in these messages that points to either a larger problem, or an easily corrected problem?
2.) What's the easiest way to downgrade my OS?

Pro Tools 002 7.1.1cs
iMac Intel Mac 20" 2.16 gig
Firewire secondary Glyph drive

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

I've gotten that error, too -- I don't think it's because of your OS upgrade, 'cause I'm still on 10.4.7. I googled the error message and found this in the DUC:

http://duc.digidesign.com/showflat.php?Number=852978

Hope that helps!

i've got a dual g5 with 10.4.8 no problems with any waves here, or that error... I've had 10.4.8 for awhile and haven't had issues.... Did you check all your permissions after the install?

Thanks Anne. I think that's exactly what I'm looking for to solve this issue.

It would be really nice if Digidesign would document the rules it uses to determine if a volume is suitable for recording. The programmers know exactly what's being checked, they could just document it, instead of lumping it all into 'not suitable', or just display a message saying specifically what's wrong.

Especially since, for some people, it seems to happen spontaneously.

I just don't understand why a drive would or would not be suitable for audio. With protools, I can't record on a fat32 drive mounted in OSX but I can with Digital Performer.
Protools needs to be recoded or something because it feels like it's seriously aging.

Pro Tools is built to make sure you're working at a higher level than other software out there. Other software and hardware won't tell you when bits and samples are dropped, when your word clock is acting funny, or any other form of 'small' errors occur. Pro Tools will immediately inform you when a single error occurs, because that shouldn't be acceptable to you (it isn't to me!). FAT32 is a slower and less optimized drive format than HFS, and it's just not up for demanding audio production like the latter is.
