Default ULTRA WIDE 3 LVD

I'm considering putting in an Adaptec PowerDomain 30160 Ultra 3 LVD in my Beige G3/300. Based on what I'm seeing you guys post, I'm also considering skipping getting the Sawtooth and just accelerating my G3. Has anybody tried the Ultra 3 yet? I know that Ultra 2 is approved, I think. And Quantum makes a 10,000 rpm ultra wide 3 drive. Comments please?

I've been using the new adaptec 39160 since it came out a couple months ago, and have not had any problems. Even though it is capable of running at the very high throughput, you still have to throttle it back in the power domain control panel to 20mb/sec, so don't buy it just for the high throughput. I bought it because I found it cheaper than I could get a 3940UW.

What is the reason for ProTools only being able to handle 20mps throughput? I was hoping to cut down on DAE errors from running too many edited tracks without having to add another drive. I was asssuming that a wider SCSI throughput and a 10,000 rpm drive would help. Is this not the case?

This is indeed the case.........
Pro Tools doesn't like too much activity on the PCI buss, so ultrawide SCSI accelerator cards have to be "strangled down" to 20Mb/s data transfer rate.
I mainly use single buss Atto or Adaptec cards in my rigs (although I do have one 3940 dual buss) and find I can pull the full 64 voices with heavy editing/automation off one 9Gb Cheetah 39102LW drive!
The company I work for has many of these drives, and, as they are also used in RADAR2 systems, we can swap them between the two systems.
