Default Help me spend my $500

OK. So here are my system specs:

-Digi 002
-AMD Athlon Thunderbird 1.4GHz
-512MB Crucial PC2100 DDRAM
-60GB IBM Deskstar GXP
-40GB Maxtor DiamondMax 8

I'm going to be coming into about $500 (give or take) within the next 2 weeks that I'm planning on spending to improve my setup. I had it narrowed down to:

1)Upgrading my comp to Athlon XP 2800+ "Barton" w/ ASUS A7N8X Deluxe mobo & 1GB PC3200 DDRAM

2)Upgrading to WAVES GOLD bundle

3)Getting a Takamine guitar (I have a severe lack of a decent acoustic)

I've got hookups that'll allow me to get either of those 3 choices for around my budget. What would you do in my situation?

(Ps I've already got a decent mic - B.L.U.E. Baby Bottle)

Yap, I too believe chances for a bang are better on a mic than on a ( steel stringed ) guitar for 500$.

If it wasn´t over 1000 miles away from you I would had recommended to drive to Tacoma City and get yourself a personally picked guitar directly from one of the best manufacturers ( assumably much cheaper there as well ).
What mics are concerned, maybe it could show as a good idea to wait and see how the new rode would be.

I think the best way to spend that 5 benjamins, would be to send it to the Captain Pants Mental Recovery fund. Im sure 500 should be enough to cover all momentary depression issues.

Thank You.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Learn that without accurate monitoring you're flying blind.

Why spend $500 on a guitar to use a pickup sound. It's an acoustic guitar, and should be captured acoustically.

Save that $500, and wait til you can afford a decent mic (preferably a pair) and a nice guitar. Also, consider a second pair of monitors, or some treatment for one of your residence at least. A bad room is as useless as poor monitoring.

Hope this is helpful.

Thanks

But I'm not going to be able to sound treat my room since I'm never in one spot for more than 3 days at a time. I dont' have a permanent spot to operate. I don't want to auralex the place up & then move. I will eventually after I graduate in the fall. But until then, I can't really fathom buying monitors I'm never going to utilize properly anyhow. So I want to spend my money now on the stuff that will go into my sound.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I was planning on just plugging in the takamine & letting the built-in pre do the rest. i'm not looking for anything too fancy here. just decent. I've got monitors as well.. They're M-Audio SP-5B's. Not exactly what you'd call state-of-the-art, but at this point in my life I'm spending about half of my week in Los Angeles (home) & half my week in San luis Obispo (school). And untill I can settle in one place & sound treat my room (auralex, etc.), I'm not gonna spend the big bucks on monitors.

Any more suggestions?
