Solution: Kensington Trackball zooms in reverse...

UPDATE/SOLUTION: Found a solution via a friend who said this is a known issue. The fix is to set macOS scroll to reverse (not natural) and then set KensingtonWorks software to ALSO be reverse. The double-reverse settings cancel eachother out but also fix the bug in which certain Pro Tools functions use reverse scrolling. So with these double reverse settings, everything functions in a normal/natural direction including zooming and clip gaining.

I have my scroll set to natural/regular, which works as expected for scrolling up and down in Pro Tools. But when I hold option key to zoom with the scroll wheel, it operates in reverse.

Here's the weirdest part: I also own a logitech mouse and the scroll wheel on that works correctly for both vertical scroll and zoom...so I'm not sure what the heck is going on.

To clarify:

Mouse: up = scroll down/zoom out

Trackball: counter-clockwise = scroll down/zoom in

The same "reversal" happens with +/- clip gain and waveform zoom when using the scroll wheel.

I want the scroll to be normal, it is set to normal in the KensingtonWorks software...when I set it to reverse, everything is reversed.

Thanks for the post. It reminded me to finally download the software to sort this out.

There's still an issue on Pro Tools side though. While this fixes using Option and Shift for waveform zoom, clip gain adjustments made from the Scroll Ring with Control and Shift held are still not working as desired. They are in reverse compared to waveform zoom which is working "correctly". Are you having the issue as well? Thanks.

EDIT: It just seems that waveform zoom and clip gain or assigned in reverse directions compared to each other in Pro Tools, so I'm not sure if there is a fix besides within PT. What Pro Tools version are you on?

I have zero issues with Kensington trackball scroll or it’s software. When I scroll the wheel clockwise my waveforms and clip gain go down. When I scroll counter clockwise, both go up.

I would say a better "idea" is that one kind of modifier + scroll behaviour does:

What you want it to do.
vs.
What you don't want it to do.

"Natural" vs "Reverse" global wheel behaviour is nonsense to me.

Sure, it might "make sense" to you.
However, it doesn't make sense to me.
Literally, what's natural for some is reverse for others.
It's not unnatural for me to prefer to scroll many ways in some apps.

Adobe apps also do things "weirdly" haha. Others too.

The solution of SteerMouse has these advantages:
You need not LET yourself be limited by this "bug."
When a particular combination of modifiers and scroll doesn't please:
If it's "opposite" -- I can change -that app and combo-, not just PT,
and not how EVERY scroll works.
It's not a global Natural/Reverse setting for the whole mouse.

Anyhow. It's just a solution. I don't find it a bug that app designers don't make it QUITE so customizable as this and I like to use SteerMouse to do it centrally for multiple apps in one place with one UI.
