If your track is recorded well.. there shouldn't be any need to use anything near that many EQ's and compressors... Spend the time and use good outboard gear and record the tracks well.. and you shouldn't have any issues mixing in Pro Tools.

Like rail said, you shouldn't have to use plugs on each track, you make it sound like the plug-ins are what make the music. Its pretty hard to reach 32 tracks when your just recording a rock band, that probably has 2 guitars, a bass, and a drummer.

You'll be fine. I use a AMD 1.6Mhz and 1gig Ram with an AudioMedia3 card for mix, you can run EQ's till your sic, even compressors as well. Digi reverb are ok but like all reverbs they start to use up power. Like the above said, just capture the best sound you can, mixdown isnt for fixing things but for making things fit better.(make sense?)

With just the digi and bf plugs...no problem; But why on earth you'd like to apply this amount of processing is beyond me...but every engineer is different, if that's how you want to do it...you can.

Run the DaveC test that you can find on this forum. That will give you and idea of the resources that your system has for use. Be aware that this test doesn't really show real-world capabilites, but it might give you an idea of how far you *can* go. I hope this helps.

Hi!
See the gearslutz forums, April guest moderator section. Charles Dye is there, and he did the Hard Disk Life column in the Digizine. Interesting stuff...

It can definitely be done:

An example for you

That's my band recorded live and mixed entirely with ProTool LE. Pretty good results if I do say so myself, so just imagine if it had been tracked in a studio environment with channel isolation.

(Oh yeah, and I didn't need to use that many plugins either, but I have a 4-band EQ on just about every track, a compressor on a few, a limiter on a few, aux sends for vocal effects, and about 3 plugs on the master track--didn't even come close to maxing out my system).

Finally, this was done (as you inquire) entirely with the included Digirack & BF plugins. I have no doubt that a more expensive set of plugs on the master track might have made a better master, but again, I think my results show up quite well.
