PT Studio... Upgrade from PT 10/11/12?

Hi... recently had to reinstall Pro Tools 12.4. I've been able to use it as a perpetual product since 2015. In hunting around my online Avid account, I noticed that Pro Tools Studio is listed as a Perpetual Product. It says "Please select the license to upgrade from" and below is my PT 10/11/12 iLok2 licensed product.

Is this legit? A worthy upgrade from my current 12.4 installation?

Or a trap!

If you want to keep using PT12 with your perpetual license, you're safe. Avid doesn't sell perpetual licenses at all anymore. What you're seeing is what they're offering now: Surrender your perpetual PT license for a small discount on a subscription! Or - as you say - a trap!

A perpetual license will last in perpetuity as long as you're happy with the PT version it's good for.

What you want to buy is "reinstatement" (of Support And Update Plan) from Avid Dealer. Beware, it needs to be the more expensive reinstatement code, not the cheaper "renewal" which requires your support plan is still active, which it is not.

Thanks for the info! No, aside from the color layout, I'm perfectly happy with 12.4. I'll stay away.

I tried the 2022.12 version (Got a month subscription for $40 just to try the ARM native beta), - the 'dark scheme' made me sick. I'm back on 2020.12. We ain't missing out on anything with the colors, I say.

I do have a reinstatement code, and I'll use it to get current when the time is right. If you buy a reinstatement code from a reseller (not on avid website) you can sit on it forever, sort of, and you can use it , when you want, on the buy page to upgrade to current version, and it will still function as a perpetual license. A year after that, you'll have to pay to stay current, or let it expire and continue on that specific version.

A reinstatement code (for PT Studio, formerly known as 'standard') is about $250-$300, if you can find it.
