Frank,
Post people were brought in to give their feedback on the sound, the look, the interface, the suggested cost and what we in post wanted in a surround plug in.
Try it, listen to it and then come back with your suggestions.
Like I said I brought in OVER 40 Post people and let them give their opinions.

But the remaining differences are really too great to be able to combine. So they're separate plugs, with somewhat different targets.
OK. Thanks.

Sure, I respect that. Just voicing my first impression from learning they are two specialized units. Probably a question of trying them and finding out what the difference is.

Talk then,

frank.

I seem to not find the answer in your pdf FAQ.
How hard on the CPU is it?

Hi,
Load isn't too bad, all things considered. I have one tester who's gotten 40 instances on a MacBook Pro. I get similar numbers on my 2009 Mac Pro, although my work appears to be happening on only half the cores. If you're good at spreading the mix out over more cores (and you probably are), you should be able to get some more 'verb in there.

Of course this also depends on what sort of stems you're mixing. A 7-in/7-out instantiation takes more memory and more CPU (largely because of all the early reflections). A 2-in/5-out (a more typical case) takes less and a 1-in/3-out even less. You get the idea.

I'm actually working an issue with Avid now--it seems you get fewer copies on an HDX system than on a native system. That may be something in their court or it may be in mine. It appears to be related to initialization.

In any case, I'm working on some optimizations right now that should increase the number of instantiations by a nice amount.

Will this be available as an upgrade to the stereo, or do we need to get a separate one for surround?

They're separate products. I'm not abandoning the stereo plugs by any means. There will be more improvements coming. I'm examining an upgrade path, but haven't worked out any details yet.

That is fine,
I am happy to pay for a separate plugin.

I think an upgrade path would be a good idea, it would be great if there was some kind of backwards compatibility mode for opening up older sessions if possible.

Having been at the demo, I will add that these things sound absolutely amazing.
Anybody who has dreamed about a lexicon high end reverb, must get these.
Words can't describe the quality of these reverbs.
They sound amazing and realistic on plain dialog.
