Hi I'm having issues with intermittent bit crushed/severely distorted audio on my mac. Sometimes I just get crackling.
The problem goes away when I change buffer size but reoccurs after a while. I have an McDSP APB-16 and UAD Satellite 2 chained together on one thunderbolt port. The APB-16 is clocked to the carbon via word clock cable. Last edited by wickett; 06-08-2023 at 09:14 AM. Reason: Solved the problem |

If you have error suppression enabled under the playback engine settings, uncheck it.
The digital garble should go away. You may get more frequent AAE error message but there might be something on your system causing those that you’ll need to 8nvestigate. The Ignore Errors During Playback/Record option determines how Pro Tools responds to error re- porting from the Avid Audio Engine (AAE) during playback and recording Enable error suppression only if you are experencing frequent errors that are interrupting your creative workflow. When error suppression is enabled, you can experience a degradation of audio quality. However, this may be acceptable in order to avoid interrupting playback and record- ing when working with instrument plug-ins. Disable error suppression when you need to ensure the highest possible audio quality, such as for a final mix. |

Thanks for the info. Ignore Errors During Playback/Record option was unchecked.
Just wondering what else to look out for on my system that could be causing it? |

Yes I had the Carbon checked in both carbon central and the Apple Audio Midi Setup>Network Device browser. You have to uncheck the unit in one or the other.
I found it in one of the Avid guides. Caused no end of hassle here. Hope that helps. |

I got the problem again when using the new kd1 plugin. I think it’s programmed to utilise the higher bandwidth of the updated units. The support guy said they will be offering a thunderbolt upgrade in the near future so maybe this will help

You've got three really good, expensive systems working here, but I'm not really sure that they are meant to play together. You computer is having to funnel data off into and out of the Carbon, APB-16 and UAD Satellite as three separate tasks. If it works, it works, but I don't envy the troubleshooting if it doesn't.

It has caused a lot of downtime and trouble shooting. It’s a shame because everything worked fine before. I will probably have admit defeat and get rid of one of the units.
