Hi
I've read a couple of past threads about this but cant seem to find them now. I'm running a g5 dual2 with 4gb ram recording onto internal serial atas. 6.9.2 10.4.1. The problem occurs when recording either a stereo track or a number of mono tracks simultaneously. The region start points are all correct but the audio is out of sync...by a couple of milliseconds or something. This can occurr between two halves of a stereo file or between two separate mono tracks. I had thought that it was to do with delay compensation so that is switched off always here during tracking. It seems today that it is not the case. I'm not running any firewire drives or delay compensation but this audio offset problem has just ruined a take! With the stereo file its easy enough to separate and re-align, but with mono drum mics, there is no way to tell exactly where the regions should be. We've had this intermittantly for a while both on tiger and before with various versions of PT. A producer I'm working with says he's had it on his LE laptop system too. If there IS a fix obviously I'd like to know what it is, but I'm happy to do whatever I have to do to work around it....Does anyone have any idea how to guarantee that this wont happen. PLEASEPLEASEPLEASE help. THIS IS DARK! J |

We are investigating other reports of this.
You say you have ADC off - does this problem occur with ADC on? |

Hi
Thanks for your reply! Unfortunately the problem tends to come out of the blue so its hard to say for sure what the exact conditions are but we will endeavour to make notes in future. We have had this problem with adc on in the past...its happened a couple of times when printing mixes from the desk back to pto tools...and adc is always on during mixdown. Today it definitely was not on, as we turn it off for tracking multiple mics having assumed that it was an adc bug causing the offset. We always find that a restart cures the issue. Perhaps we should put a burst of tone through the desk before every take to make sure that we can re-align any offsets that might occurr. Whenever we have had this problem it has caused an obvious delay....Say 50 to 100 ms or something. What REALLY worries me is that it might be doing it more often with very very short delays of a few samples here and there, but we would notice if drums were going wierd...so while my paranoia is working overtime, I think the delay is always fairly substantial. Thanks Jack |

So just be clear....when I mentioned a couple of milliseconds in my original post, that was a figure of speech. It seems to be a longer delay.
Furthermore I've been chatting with my PT LE producer mate, who says he thinks it happens in LE but he cant be sure. So I guess we should disregard that until something very concrete happens. J |
