Default 002R with 2 machines

Folks,

I'm currently running Cubase on a G3 imac but plan on getting a 002R. I need portability for location recording so will probably go for a G5 imac (not supported yet I know but other posters seem to have it working OK).

I know Tools quite well but not intimately. Is there any way of using a second machine with a 002 to bump up processing and track counts? Cubase SX lets you link two machines digitally so you can track on one and use the other as a virtual effects rack, stand alone sampler etc.

Cheers!!

Yes, you can link two computers and two 002R for a 64-trsck system. Connect the systems using MIDI and Lightpipe, sync the converters over Lightpipe, sync the transports with MIDI, transfer submixes from the 'slave' to the 'master' over lightpipe.

Thanks tele player,

This is probably a dumb follow up question but what about the scenario where you don't necessarily want to run Tools on the second machine - maybe just a stand alone soft sampler, soft synths or a rack of effects hosted in another program that doesn't need digi hardware. Could a 002/LE system interface with another machine in this capacity?

Cheers!

Yes, you can link them via MIDI and analog I/O or digital I/O, just like using any other external device or synth.

Anyone out there actually doing it with Tools? I'm thinking spdif would be the logical link?
I've seen demos with Cubase SX as the primary program and the 2 machine setup can really add some punch to a native rig.
