Default Monitor Suggestions Please!

Can anyone suggest an affordable
monitor setup for my Digi001 based system?

Affordable--$100-$300 range.

Should I look for powered or non-powered?

I have a small room, so volume isn't important.
Much more important is detail and spatial definition.

Thanks very much in advance!

Hi toddamo,

If you went with unpowered monitors, what would you be using to power them?

for that price range, maybe some of the event products. They sound pretty good. I own the Alesis M1 Active monitors which do me just fine.

I've heard good things about the NHT (Now Hear This) but our toddamo wants to spend up to $300 for a pair-!

With all due respect to the otherwise good-sounding speaker suggestions, and realising this will perhaps go over like a MAC SUCKS post over in the Mac forum, seems like lots of times when someone posts in here asking about Mics or Monitors we get lots of posts suggesting they go get equipment that costs twice -or more- the guy's budget. It can seem more about "here's the gear I know about" rather than guiding the people to something they can afford. What help is it?

Instead. Let's see if we can help the guy with something he can afford, including the power amp, which adds andother $200 or more? I think that's more useful than sending 'em after some Dynaudio BM15A's- y'know?

(Actually the Truths are rip/copies of the Genelec 1029-1030 design, I believe... at least Behringer steals good designs, like thieves wit' good taste. and those are $100 over budget, too now that I think about it ).

Where I'm coming from here is let's try to help the guy instead of list stuff he can't get now.

Well , I might get laughed off the page here, but I bought the M-Audio Studiophiles for $279 and they rock. I A/B'd them against a pair of Yamaha's and a pair of Roland's and the Event ps5's and I thought they sounded better than all of them. They are amazingly clear and have good bass response for a small monitor. They are powered 100W each w/ built in crossovers. I can seriously say I recommend them.

I'm using the Event's PS6. They sound great. Initially I got the PS8 but found them too big for my roon. My room is about 11' x 10'. These can get loud but without the bass becoming a problem. They seem to have a pretty flat response also as all my mixes hold up on all systems. I saw that the PS5 are $229 at Guitar Center.
