Pro Tools Perpetual Upgrade-2023

What I'd really like is to be able to upgrade from Pro Tools Studio to Ultimate.

I certainly wouldn't spend money on a double Studio-Ultimate license.

If I'm in post-production, I'd rather use my Nuendo (which I bought as an upgrade to a Cubase license).

It seems to me that this rigid policy is neither good for Avid nor for users. Let's hope for a change from the new team, which started in 2023.

We don't offer the trade up from Pro Tools Studio to Pro Tools Ultimate anymore. What we reintroduce last September 21, 2023 is purchasing new perpetual license for Pro Tools Studio and Pro Tools Ultimate as well as the release of new perpetual version of Pro Tools Artist.

Hello Charles, and thank you for your reply. I think your new policy is pragmatic and reasonable. But I find it a bit sad that you can't switch from Studio to Ultimate. From the customer's point of view, it's annoying. I'm on my own and I'd have to keep a Studio license for nothing, and buy an Ultimate license on top of that. There's a commercial logic to it, but not for the user. That said, PT Studio has become much richer in recent years. I'm going to continue with this version, hoping one day...

You're welcome! Let's see what the will be the up coming updates but it's really hard to tell if trade-up will be reintroduced as well.

Pro Tools Perpetual Upgrade was previously known as Pro Tools Renewal. This is available for all paid tiers (Artist, Studio and Ultimate). This upgrade is also considered as consolidated Pro Tools Renewal and Pro Tools Reinstatement/Upgrade. This means that with a price of renewal, you can update your Perpetual license whether your system id is active or expired regardless if it's already outside the 30-day grace period.

This also includes updating your legacy licenses Pro Tools 9, 10 and 11

That would be cool, especially user's going back from PT6 or 7. Let's say a loyalty upgrade option.

I have PT Studio 2023.9. I recently received the email informing me that I now had a Pro Tools Studio Perpetual license - cool! - and that I had only to go download it from my products page and “go create with wild abandon!”. There was even a link to where it would be…

Except it’s not there.

I am wondering if they did not mean to include people who got PT Studio with purchase of MBox Studio….?

Don't hold yout breath. Those were DigiDesign times and back then your license kind of was DigiDesign branded hardware. Upgrades available for Avid PT9 and later.

Understand Janne. I was parked for a long LONG TIME on Mt. Lion PT 10. I read all your assessments on combos, and that combo was so rock solid and was happy for seven years.


What always baffled me how fast 9/10/11 loaded up on start up.


Geeez newer versions take a long time.
