Pro Tools Perpetual Upgrade-2023

On September 21, 2023 aside from the reintroduction of New Pro Tools Perpetual, Avid made some changes on how perpetual license can be updated and it's now called Pro Tools Perpetual Upgrade.

Pro Tools Perpetual Upgrade was previously known as Pro Tools Renewal. This is available for all paid tiers (Artist, Studio and Ultimate). This upgrade is also considered as consolidated Pro Tools Renewal and Pro Tools Reinstatement/Upgrade. This means that with a price of renewal, you can update your Perpetual license whether your system id is active or expired regardless if it's already outside the 30-day grace period.

This also includes updating your legacy licenses Pro Tools 9, 10 and 11

My friend has a Pro Tools 10 HD perpetual license with an expired update / support plan. Is it possible to use the Pro Tools Studio update / support plan upgrade to be able to continue on with Pro Tools Studio?

Hi ManhtnProjct,

Pro Tools HD 10 license can only be used to upgrade to Pro Tools Ultimate. To upgrade to Pro Tools Studio, you will need a Pro Tools 10 (non-HD) license.

If i'm not mistaken, a PT 10 HD license would also work with PT 10 (non-HD) so essentially he has this license included by default. It would be a fair downgrade no?

Yes it is bundled with a non-HD 10 but it's not going to be accepted as a Studio upgrade since it's bundled with an HD license.

I have absolutely no say on this, but I am just wondering why Avid does not allow updating HD to Studio if a customer wants to give up higher tier license in favor of lower tier license

I am one of them. I just want Studio as it is all I need for my current set up but I can not exchange it with my Ultimate licence. Weird policy I think.

Agree.

It used to be possible so it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to not allow it now.

I'd also like to see perpetual licenses come back for Sibelius and Media Composer.

I would like to see something so simple, like Pro Tools Perpetual Upgrade & Pro Tools Renewal Subscription. And the explanation under such link.

Man I read from so many web-stores, and here on the forum, the verbiage was so confusing that I was so hesitant.
