Question MacPro connection with Macbook Pro!!

Hi Guys,

have a simple question?

Is it possible to connect a Macbook Pro with a MacPro to use them both for producing with Pro Tools?

I have a Macbook Pro since 2 years, but now my production Level is above the capacity of my MBP. So I want to buy a MacPro.
But it would be nice to connect them both to use the Power of the MacPro and to arrange and play everything in the Macbook Pro, is that possible??

I'm using Pro Tools 8 (M-Box Mini 2).

If you know how to handle that, please let me know it.
That would be very nice!!!

Of course, Happy belated X-MAS!!!

Thx,
Digidesignboarder!!!!

P.S: Do you think I should wait to buy a new MacPro next year, 'cause there will be a new one soon or should I'll buy now.
I badly need a better Apple, but I don't want to pay much now, for something that will be replaced through a newer one soon and maybe cost the same!

I would wait for a couple months if you can. Supposed to be new MacPros soon.

Some people have success using one computer to be the sequencer for audio and MIDI tracks, but the MIDI triggers Virtual Instrument plugins on the second computer. You need 2 interfaces if you want to have ProTools installed on both. Note that one computer is just a MIDI slave to the other, just like if you were triggering a hardware synth. Some like to use Logic on one for access to it's VI's..

Other people have some success sync'ing 2 systems together so both can actually record audio, but this has always sounded a little sketchy to me. I don't think that is what you were asking to do though..

What else do you want to know? Is there something specific?

Hey don't be mad!

You're answer is great, but I want to know other opinions, too.
Maybe someone is working with a MacPro and Macbook Pro together!!

Oh, I'm not mad. I'm just curious. Your question is pretty general so it is hard to have more specific info for you..

I am a little concerned that maybe you are asking if the processing power from both can be combined somehow in a single program (like some kind of distributed processing network). I think Cubase can do something like that but I'm not sure...

What I am suggesting is having 2 "independent" systems running in parallel but connected with MIDI and audio..

Yeah, thats right -> (if the processing power from both can be combined somehow in a single program).

I wanna know if it's possible with the two macs and one Pro Tools App!

Nope.. Doesn't work like that. That is why I was concerned...

Vienna Ensemble Pro

Then you could use the processing power of both macs.
