Pro Tools Crashing on Certain Plugins, Ventura and Sonoma
Hi all,
Hope that you could provide some pointers for further troubleshooting for this situation here. I'm using a Hackintosh system (AMD Ryzen 5900, Gigabyte B550 Vision D, Universal Audio Apollo X). I have a working Big Sur system, where Pro Tools v. 2021.6 behaves as supposed to. I have recently installed the Sonoma on a separate hard drive. I have then experienced the following issue: Certain plugins (Bogren Digital Ampknob Rev C, ML Sound Lab Amped Roots, Aurora DSP Mammoth) crash Pro Tools only when these are open in the project. The crash is immediate and it doesn't open the Pro Tools Crash Reported. Moreover, I have discovered that with Mammoth, the plugin did open just fine once it wasn't authorised and requested the activation code. Once I provided the code, it led to an immediate crash. These plugins work just fine in any other DAW under my current setup. These plugins work as expected in my Big Sur setup, too. I decided to downgrade to the Ventura system, and the issue persists. I am happy to provide more information if I'm missing anything. I am however wondering whether there is a way to troubleshoot this and possibly generate a crash log somehow? Detecting the source of this issue would be beneficial. Thank you in advance for your help!

Re: Pro Tools Crashing on Certain Plugins, Ventura and Sonoma
You are trying to run Pro Tools 2021.6 on Sonoma???
That's a non-starter. Not only is it not officially supported but it's almost certain to have problems. https://avidtech.my.salesforce-sites...tibility-Chart I can't follow what you have been doing after trying this out but maybe you need to start over with a clean macOS install. |

Re: Pro Tools Crashing on Certain Plugins, Ventura and Sonoma
I was thinking that the hackintosh was the likely culprit. I've not built one in a long time but back then they needed special concessions made to accommodate certain Mac OS updates. Is it possible that your hackintosh needs some updating?
It's not uncommon for the crash screen you're accustomed to vanish. I don't always see it after crashes. But (I believe) you'll still have a crash log on your machine. Check here: /Users/(username)/Library/Logs/Avid/Crashlog/ProTools. |

Thank you very much for your response and the information! Yes, I understand that I'm using an older version of Pro Tools. It may or may not be the culprit here. Having the experience with some Pro Tools upgrades, I do have some doubts that the update would fix the issue. I may be wrong, however. This is the clean new OS X install. Thank you for the suggestion to upgrade, I would consider.

My Hackintosh system currently has two drives. One drives runs the Big Sur system with no issues in Pro Tools. For the other drive, I completed the clean installation of Sonoma and then reformatted and installed Ventura. That's where the issue comes in. I can't be certain whether the Hackintosh itself leads to this issue. It's difficult to track. I will look into the logs if these are created and then report back.

Re: Pro Tools Crashing on Certain Plugins, Ventura and Sonoma
Everything about this system smells of incompatibility with PT 2024.6. Not to mention any plugs that are not compatible with Sonoma.
Try some of the basic troubleshooting seen here once you get your hands on a proper PT version. https://www.production-expert.com/pr...-how-to-fix-it |

Re: Pro Tools Crashing on Certain Plugins, Ventura and Sonoma
I had no choice as Mac came with Sonoma, but I am pretty much 100% certain here that the issues OP is having are hackintosh mixed with using an old version of PT on a current OS. It just sounds like the most un ideal setup for PT. I am guessing the OP stopped upgrading and the last version they have access to is 2021, but it may be worth upgrading for a year again since there are no longer penalties in doing so, and at least get a year of all the latest versions that definitely work on Sonoma.
A hackintosh will never be officially supported though, and Intel is definitely being phased out. If you want to use 2021, just set up the hack with an older version of OSX, surely that can be done? Edit, hang on, OP says it works perfect with Big Sur. That actually makes sense so just use that. Why cause problems for yourself?

Re: Pro Tools Crashing on Certain Plugins, Ventura and Sonoma
Hackintosh works, but you’ll always be on the edge because of something. For me, the main issues with them are system stability. They’re hard to maintain stable all the time for various reasons. I’m not sure how they can trigger your specific situation with plugins, but I suggest you start looking at your graphics kext and injection settings. Keep in mind that, as you may know, the boot loaders need to be updated and tweaked accordingly to the guides for each OS upgrade version.
I’ve used them in the past, and that’s why I got a new real Mac... stability. I hope this helps a little.
