I've yet to see anyone post test results that they could get more vi tracks with lower latency or fewer errors by putting vi sound Libs on either system, destination audio, or a third drive. Would be nice if Avid rep with insight could offer any counsel if not test data.

Since most folks going with smaller boot SSD drives probably precludes most big libraries like Kontakt, Ivory, etc.

I posted MIDI/VI lagging issue on different topic. But will this be reason why my drum tracks seems lagging on sometimes on first beat.

Is there any way to control output qualities of Avid VIs like Low Ram or Real Time CPU?

I have 4 different dedicated SSD drives for:
- system
- PT sessions
- VI's
- data/files

I don't notice any big difference or improvement if VI's are on system drive or dedicated drive as long as there is enough space alteast on my system.

My VI's are even on a Samsung EVO 1TB M.2 SSD drive but I feel either PT or some of the VI's, or a combination is slow to load.

Data distribution was a major concern back when this thread was more active but as you've said it's less crucial (bad pun) now. And with SSD prices having improved so much it's feasible to have everything on them, as I do, and as you do.

With things spread out like that, I doubt we're getting anywhere near a bottleneck. It would take a lot of tracks and a lot of other activity to notice the speed caps. Back in the day, the big one for me was separating video from audio and from samples. Those three absolutely needed to be on different drives.

These days, I put the video file in the PT session folder, and even my samples often coexist with those other files.

And if we're looking at the blazing speed of the new Macs, you could simply put it all on your internal drive and probably not see any hiccups. I'd mentioned this in another thread but what was once a constant concern (storage and RAM) is now hardly a thought.

Yes!

I put everything (OS, samples, current sessions, current video files) on a single 4TB internal NVMe PCIe 4 drive, which I have partitioned for organizational purposes. I have a modest amount of of sample libraries, so 4TB internal is enough for me. Non-current sessions, backups, misc data, archives, etc on various external drives.

64GB RAM.

Buffer 64.

Works!
