Default Digi 002 or 002R?

Ok, I stepped down from the 002R to an Mbox recently for financial reasons. Now things are better and I'm ready to go back up the ladder. I was considering getting another 002R (which I had for over 2 years) and a mixer just to monitor sources with (not for actual mixing out of the box). However, I am now considering for a few hundred more, just getting the 002 console because I forgot that it can be used as a standalone mixer. I don't care whether or not you can use the built-in effects, but if I know that all my sources can be plugged in an monitored, then I am happy with that.

Anyone had a chance to have both an 002 and 002R, based on what I said, would it be a wise move? I thought of the M-Audio in a prior post but I'd rather stick to LE and not have to buy PT M-Powered.

Hey pk,

If I were you, I would go for the 002R and leave my options open for a better outboard mixer with greater routing options. The original 002 is old technology at todays standards (yesterdays technology is old technology, huh?). Especially now that there are some new and exciting mixers coming out that offer great options for digital guys wanting to start venturing out of the box.

Actually, if your able to wait a minute, Im sure Digi would be offering something new by the end of the year. You wouldn't want to be kicking yourself later. Even the 002R has become a bit dated.

Good luck.

I've worked out a deal with someone and am upgrading from my 002r to a 002. The addition of a control surface is my main reason. I've been using my 01v as a control surface, but that leaves a lot to be desired.

I have heard that the faders on the 002 are not that spectacular (need to be replaced after frequent use), where i have had a 002r for about 2 years now with no problems at all.

Good luck.

I have the 002 and, while I don't really mix with the faders, they are a great convenience. Whenever I do overdubs, I just push the slider up to +6 or so and it puts the new track's volume right where it needs to be for the artist's headphones.

why dont you go and use one before spouting that kinda bs
the 002 faders are good, while they might not be the faders on the ICON they are better than any Yamaha or any cheep-o

the 2 options would be a 002 or a 002r with a command8. the main question you should ask your self is do you want the unit on your desk or in a rack.

Hey PK,

Good to see you back.

The 002 console is fine, a better option than the 002r if you need flexibility of hands on. The command 8 is great for specific ptools aplications, however I found it a hassle banking all the time as with the 002. As there are so many new surfaces around as you would be aware, why not get 24 faders and still cover your main objectives? Perhaps I misread your question but I think if going for the 002, this would be to add some more control over monitoring options, you could add a half decent surface for the price and gain more flexibility?

Just a thought.

Hope this helps.

AJ

(I still use a 001 at home so I cant talk, however I also use a c24 which is joy.)

Settle down bb_aus. I was giving a point of veiw from a friend who has the 002 who has experienced problems with the faders. In doing this, it gives perspective from another source which should help Pk make a decision. So next time, how about saying something a little more constructive.
